Bait-Tech Halibut Marine Method Mix
We check out another of Bait-Tech’s highly versatile range of groundbaits.
Bait-Tech state that “Any groundbait that’s formulated around a base of crushed Marine Halibut pellets is always going to be a bit special!” and you cannot argue against that as ‘Halibuts’, love them or hate them, have massive pulling power during the warmer months and, if you are fishing for species such as bream and barbel on many venues these days, you are at a considerable disadvantage if you are not using them.
The Bait-Tech mix, supplied in a 2kg bag, has also been blended with a host of other fishmeals and top grade ingredients to produce a fine-textured, fast breakdown, oily groundbait. Mixed slightly on the moist side and compacted firmly it produced rock-solid balls which bound together a large amount of pellets and particles and yet still took the full force of an 80m plus chuck on a light carp rod with a 1.5oz method feeder and, when skinned with a little water, the same distance via a groundbait catty was no problem either.
Mixed on the dry side it moulded perfectly around a flatbed feeder for commercial work and for a fishmeal the breakdown time was surprisingly good – they can tend to be a bit overly sticky at times, without the addition of a coarser ingredient. The mix was perfect in a cage feeder too, either on its own or, as I usually favour, cut with a little crushed hemp to give a lighter, fluffier mix. Equally suited to the rivers as to the stillwaters and particularly good for flowing venues where you need to get a solid ball of feed packed with pellets onto the deck quickly without it breaking up on the drop (and sending all the barbel in your swim downstream with it...).
On its own, or used as a base for other ingredients, this is a versatile fishmeal mix with massive appeal for most species and the packaging includes some of the best mixing and usage instructions I’ve seen in a long while – if you read them and mix accordingly you will get a whole lot more out of your purchase.
Available from all Bait-Tech stockists, expect to pay around £5.99 per 2kg bag.
