Picked up a good technique from another site on how to tie your own braided leaders from one length of mono. It's so easy and they look really good. I've yet to fish with one but feedback from others is that they turn over very well indeed.

If I feel confident enough, I'll try and demonstrate if you're interested.

isn't a braided leader made out of braid then?

Some are braided mono

Trout fisherman did a free make your own braided loop last year or the year before. Bit fiddly but I did make one...

Ron, I tied the flies last night. Made a lovely realistic thin damsel but will make some SA ones too, btw is the SA damsel leaded or goldhead? My gnat is not nice - what size hook & what wing do you use if any..?

What about your buzzer - like a 'hares ear' theres so many shapes sizes, recipes...

Jason, I think braiding is just the technique, like women that have braided plaits in their hair.

Neil, I got the "make your qon braided leaders" kit too. Like you say, very fiddly. This isn't though, like I said, so easy.

I tie my buzzers with tying silk ribbed with white silk or wire. I like to put the tail and head tufts on them.

The SA Damsel can be weighted with a bit of lead wire. On most waters I don't bother. I fact since using fluoro leaders which are much heavier than nylon, I have found myself weighting flys less.
