benny, that all depends on lake, can name 3 lakes of top of my head where carp have started to stunt out at 3-5lbs they breed that well, can name them if need be . r u missin point a bit les read what ive written properly then do maths,,,,,,and yes les i understand fully what a pack of hungry pike can do to shoal of roach,,,but do u think that said pack of pike where clever enough 2 organise a hunting posse together, or have they just happened across shoal trapped in a corner of a fishery as individuals ,and a feeding frenzey has ensued which to the untrained eye may look like a pack of pike working together????? cheers baz looking at mr braddocks site soon as...

Billy ,Took your time mate ,untrained eye ? do you think that pike can`t work together ?
Don`t you think that instinct between fish has a good part to do with it ,or have you a narrow point of veiw ?

sorry les no access 2 comp till weekdays, not 2 sure about pike working together as a team unless someone comes up with solid proof of pike working together,i.e.underwater footage of this happening, then i firmley believe that it just happens 2 b coincedence that afew pike have arrived at same spot at same time 2 feed on same shoal of fish.....unlike perch witch do hunt in packs, and young zander....keep your comments coming les i,me enjoying this,a bit of intelegent conversation matey....

Billy Boy, As you have said perch & young zander work together , admittedly perch are a shoal fish (the smaller ones )so why not the pike occasional when it is beneficial to do so ?
I do understand that it is a rare thing to happen ,I have seen lot`s of lone pike going through fry in open water but to these "untrained " eye`s ,these pike were definitly working as a group.

les,how many times have u seen perch or zander trying to eat a member of its own kind of the same size???? pike as everyone knows can and do commit the afor mentioned crime on a regular basis.my argument is pike are a solitery hunter yes? they dont move around in groups looking 4 food ,but are very aware of whats happening around them in there enviroment ,so if one pike finds a group of fish trapped in corner and begins feeding on them sureley it wouldent take long 4 any other pike in area to home in on distress signals , vibrations ect??? also if pike are preocupied with shoal of baitfish then they wont attack each other so u may well get impression they are working as a team??

Billy Boy ,I agree to a point about pike being a solitery hunter ,as far as we know ,but nothing is written in stone ,there is always something that upsets the ball game ,thats how we learn !
I am a great believer in instict when it comes down to how fish react ,ether solo or between fish.
I think that we will have to agree to disagree on this one .

no-ones answered me yet so i'll ask again .anyone heard rumours of big carp n' barbel on tidal trent as far down as gainsborough??
Show/hide user stats
Have heard the Trent down at gainsborough is like nails for barbel but you would have to fancy it for carp!

The Lower Don is a real mystery water for me, I only ever fish the upper,

But I am well up for a bit of fishing so count me in all being well with work

get your map book out for this one swordsey, barnbydun doncaster near stainforth and quit close to fish lake some reel untapped carp potential well worth a look .power station down 2 river ebeck mouth favorite area me thinks..........also canal viaduct area in or near kirk sandal area...........i would only attempt to fish in warmer months though as it tends to get abit sloppy on mud banks.........whoes to say no barbel have found there way down there ether prison in doncaster is only a stones throw away ,and as thats the first wear on don and the only barrier between doncaster and the ouse, could they travel that far? no body knows cause apart from a few in know it never gets fished. saw mr angrey down there a few years back. was carpin ,he may know more .
