could be right les matey ,but lets put it like this ,ime presuming you have a big head of adult carp,by adult imean of breading age,one 10 lbs carp will produce 10,000 eggs when spawning,if only 5000 of these eggs hatch ,thats 5000 fry if only 1000 of these fry make it past first year,by which time they may be 4 inch mini carp,by end of second year they are 6-8 inch carp, which are ideal pike fodder and obviousley a whole lot easyer to catch than roach.so say times 500 6 inch carp by amount of breading age carp in said lake, over however long carp have been in that lake ,thats one hell ov alot of juvenile carp. if iwas a pike iknow what i would be eating in that lake.[obviously this is speculation on my part but what do u think]??????

easy one that cakey, pike are active feeders through winter months, roach also are very active through winter months,carp......well anyone whoes tryed to catch them through winter will know what ime gonner say next.......... arnt very active through winter, are they, well not compared to ashoal of fast fleeting roach.all boils down to aquestion of energy expended trying to catch meal, and energy received from meal recieved.wonder if anyone out there has actualy spent much time chasing pike in large commercial fisheries???...just athought but where has the perch record just been brocken???? yet again another predator.........

Billy ,Have you ever seen pike working together to take a shoal of roach apart ,I have and it is quite amazing to watch ,they herd them in a corner and just rip into them .
Show/hide user stats
Billy ,I dont think that 1000 carp fry are going to keep many pike happy for long do you ?
Show/hide user stats
hardly any carp eggs get past fertilisation hence why so many lakes are stocked by humans and not naturally.
