is there a reasonwhy you only looking at the two different bivvys try looking at the jrc sti2man excellent bit of kit for the money

I did consider the JRC STI, but I'd prefer one with a groundsheet sewn in. Had a bad experience with a rat in my bivvy. (not the UB40 song!!!!)

Hi Gary,
I have recently purchased the Force 8 Two man bivvy- It's a nice decent bit of kit, goes up in the said 20 Secs once it's out the bag, then just a case of pegging down- takes me no longer than 4 or 5 mins tops from start to finish ( now i've got the knack)- Just as quick to pack away too, and with just a little effort it actually goes back into the factory supplied bag!!.Another nice point is once it'e erected you can move it around and repostion freely etc- unlike my last bivvy.
The actual porch groundsheet is a perfect fit ( makes a nice change) and the whole bivvy has a skirt that slips underneath the actual groundsheet (even tho it's totaly built in and bug proof!!). One negative is the pegs that are supplied with it- they are carp!- so i invested in a set of decent ones.
I tried many times to purchase one from TFG but they never had them instock!- so i bought mine from a trader on Ebay- he's still selling them so here's a link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TF-Gear-Force-8-Bivvy-2-man-Matt-Hayes-bivvies-RRP-300_W0QQitemZ7247474307QQcategoryZ112955QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem And before anyone asks- NO- i am nothing to do with this seller in anyway shape or form, just trying to help out here.
Also, if you were considering getting the one man version- then don't- get the two man, it's just perfect for one bed and all your gear etc.
Anything else you'd like to know just ask.
Cheers
Andy

hi, ive been thinking of buying the 2 man force 8 bivvy but there are still questions about the bivvy that are stopping me from buying it. ive read in other reviews that the matierial the bivvy is made out of is thin and not too strong also i havent been able to get a clear set of dimentions for the bivvy so any help in this area would be much appriciated. And has anyone been out in this bivvy in bad weather conditions e.g strong winds and heavy rain if so how did the bivvy hold up if it did at all! Thanks
|
 |
Hi Tom....The exact dimensions are: Length 3.20 meteres including the porch, 2.80 width and 1.35 height- And as for the fabric being thin or weak etc, thats total rubbish, it's heavy duty 6oz Nylon, ( the fox easy dome is only 4oz) all seams are fully taped and sealed and it has a hydrostatic of 3000mm - in laymans terms that means 100% waterproof guarranteed- I have been out in mine 3 times now but in good weather( rainwise)so cannot offer a true evaluation- it was windy on one ocaccision and i had no problems what so ever. Only long term use will tell me how durable this bivvy is, but having said that, all zips are large and well made, the pegging points feel very stong, being made of steel where the peg enters-Having owned 4 other types of bivvy in the past this equals or betters all of them. The main reason i went for this particlar bivvy was it's speed of erection- i got fed up threading poles etc, and it's faster than my recent pram hood style Big Easy bivvy which is now up for sale.

Thanks chopper thats just what i needed to know!

Hi Chopper I was alos thinking about this bivvy, in the brochure it looks like the front can be rolled back to use the bivvy as a day shelter. I was wanting this bivvy for all day use and occasional overnight stuff when time permits. Your opinion of this would be most useful Cheers Simon

 |
Hi Simon,
Yes, the whole front can be rolled back so to speak, doing away with the porch completley- and the porch groundsheet can be folded underneath the main bivvy out of the way ( nice for when the swims are a bit tight). There is another inner mossie door in the main compartment also- To be totaly honest though, as an out and out day shelter with just the odd single night it is a bit overkill, even in the one man version. If i were you i'd look at some of the brolly type options such as the Dave Lane STI brolly- link- http://www.jktackle.co.uk/acatalog/JRC_Bivvies.html#a185 This is also very fast and easy to erect, you can also purchase an overwrap for this if you want for the odd overnight session- Best of both worlds so to speak, price for both brolly and overwrap is only about £15 more than the Two man Force 8.
Cheers
