you have mail deano I have often wondered about using mackerel but then wouldn't that entice pike?

I should be able to let you know about the pike eating the chubs dinner within the next two weeks Wendy!
cheese paste is great caught 3 chub for me yesterday
pellet/paste for me i have never had a fish on them, is it just me or does anyone else think the bait that catches is whatever the names are promoting?? or so all the weeklies tell us! there always seems to be a "new revolutionary bait" that the well known anglers are using and it just so happens to be made by their sponsers! lol, or maybe im just a cynic aswell as a poor angler!?

In UK I cannot get on with sweetcorn when all around me do well. Worms are another non-productive bait but meat and bread are the bees b*******. However, here in Spain ( costa blanca) it is all sweetcorn and very little else ! Bread does well for the Mullet on my local river (Pego marshes ) but for the carp it has to be sweetcorn. I am now catching them up to 11lb and also small barbel on occasion. They are both phenomenal fighters being truly wild and never caught before. I just wish I could get hold of some lobs .......

That's typical Peter - if there's one bait that I had to choose over all others it would be worms (dendrobena's). They never seem to fail me.
Worms are my 'never fail' bait too. If nothing else works then a couple of worms on the quiver tip usually prevents a blank session. Deanos & Wendy, if you try mackerel peices or lamprey for chub (or any other bait associated with pike) then try a braided hook-length rather than mono. I read somewhere that you're less likely to get bitten off as the braid is limper than mono and falls between their teeth (I have no facts to support this though). A pike however shouldn't have too many problems dealing with a relatively small single hook if you do get parted.

Sweetcorns probably my favourite bait... At first I had no confidence in skinz pellets tried them a season later and now I love them. Never had any luck with bread, except as floating crust. Don't seem to have any confidence in it.

Tiger Nuts. Not had a single take on them ever, when other baits have scored instantly for me. Same goes for any of the Dynamite Baits range of boilies, pellets & groundbaits. Never had a good day with them, yet any other baits I try give instant results and continue to be effective such as the Nash Scopex Squid Livers boilies or Enterprise Plastic Baits (which have worked everywhere I have used them).
I've probably caught more of my bigger fish on Dynamite Baits baits than any other; particularly the 10mm halibut pellets.
chick peas simply get ignored by every fish within 100 yards of wherever I am !
try bacon pieces, I got a surprise
but I have never found that bream like hemp mixed in with groundbait, i've had a nigh on 90lb bag of bream on groundabit that was 1/3rd crushed hemp.
returning to my strange experiences on a resevoir in Spain stuffed with carp to about 6lb I go in a small group containing a nutter who has caught them on CARROT, HAM AND MUSTARD, APPLE and any thing else he can lay hands on ! At the same time I never got a bite on chick peas ! There simply is no sense in any of it sometimes so stick to what works for you and keep it simple

A slight tangent..... Anyone used BLACK PUDDING???
Matt, back in the 70's I used to make a paste mix of crushed trout pellet, black pudding and egg albumen powder for chub fishing on the Windrush, Cherwell and Thame. Can't say it was better or worse than sausage, luncheon meat or bacon grill but it just looked as though it should be a really good bait. Peter - My son and I had a similar experience a few years ago fishing up in the Canadian Rockies. The locals only used white mini-marshmallows about the size of a 10mm pellet. It was the only thing you could catch on.
