So sad to hear of the news about Fred, I used to thoroughly enjoy reading his articles, in particular, his tench fishing exploits with Ken. My sincerest condolences to his family.

Another of the real giants passes, leaving us all the richer for his contribution in life and the poorer for the loss of his presence. Gone but always well remembered, condolences to the family.

Ahhh Fred J, As a mere "Whipper Snapper" to some on here at the age of 38,I remember as a kid reading his articles in various magazines. Also his books about a "Countyman".I do a bit of "Ferreting" in the winter, with a mate and,am partial to a rabbit stew.I tremeber an anrticle from years back, when Fred caught and cooked some on the bank.Memory is vague here, but it involved a Tench Lake and a flooded punt? Also last Sunday, used the "Lift Method" to good effect, for some Tench. Be Lucky up there Fred J,I'm sure you,Dick and BV will chew the fat over and over.

.jpg) One of my heroes - currently reading a signed copy of "Reflections of a Countryman" - will continue with a touch of sadness but also gratitude for all that Fred's writing taught me in the 60s.

A sad passing for all. The MBE honour was richly deserved, if long overdue.

Another great loss to angling, and to country interests in general. Up until recent years there was a Tv programme on Central( I think). I always looked out for Fred's little pieces , always fresh and of great interest. Gone but he will not be forgotten. RIP.
