Nils Lofgren - remember the "I Came to Dance Tour" - assume he is still doing the somersault whilst still playing the guitar at the end of his concerts. Does he still play with the East Street band...and the Boss?

Was only listening to some Little Feat whilst marking A level exam scripts yesterday - pity they won't let you sit in a bivvy and mark whilst you've got a "sleeper" rod out....at last I have found a positive use for a bivvy

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band

The Specials

The Selector

But still listen to these loads:

Pink Floyd

The Doors

Lou Read

The Specials (the first single I purchased was Too Much Too Young - classic!)

I thought we had moved to the worst band with all the shit this lot has come out with..................

Nils Lofgren is currently on tour with the E Street Band, his solo on Because the Night is simply stunning, check it out on youtube.

He is into spinning around like a dervish at the end of this and its a wonder he doesn't spin right off the stage, brilliant!

So Nils is calming down in his old age then;

Ah Cakey; so this lot are more your things;

  • Coon Sanders and his Original Nighthawk Orchestra
  • The Savoy Orphians
  • Geraldo and His Orchestra
  • and of course Portsmouth's finest.....Bob Smith and his Crackerjacks

God, the "Savoy Orpheans" takes me back - I found an old disc of their song "Deep Purple", and confused my 70's prog rock friends by saying I had a 78rpm record of Deep Purple.

Very similar (to my ears) to Jack Hylton - Twenties/thirties Jazz with a very English accent.

Pass the Pimms, old boy, and don't hold back on the cucumber!

Edit - Poshers, are the other bands you mention in the same vein? I used to buy old 78's at jumble sales; lost most in circumstances too bitter to recount, and have been vaguely looking for that sound ever since!

I had an old 78 record by Coon Sanders etc - it was a band not unlike Temperance Seven by the sound of things - to be honest I got it for the completely un-pc band name!

I think Geraldo and his Orchestra were in similar vein to Savoy Orphians -

as for Bob Smith and his Crackerjacks - it was my grandfathers band - I never heard them play and have been desperately  trying to find a playbill with them on for years.  They were the "Brickwoods Brewery " houseband - and used to play in the larger Brickwoods venues at tea dances etc.  Gramps was an old RM bandsman who I am told could play piano,cornet and violin....not at the same time.  When he left the RM he was invited to join a couple of brothers, and former comrades, who were setting up a Hoilday camp company in competition to Billy Butlin.  They wanted my grandfather to be Entertainment Director. he said no, all he wanted to do was run a small pub and work at the dockyard.  So my grandfather turned down the opportunity to be one of the founders of Warner Brothers Holiday Camps who were huge in the South. Bu&&er

Sorry young Bunion, almost hijacked the thread there..

Today I am mostly listening to;

Ronnie Lane

Manu Chao

and Kate Rusby

Bon Jovi

Nickelback

Some of these aren't bands though are they.....I notice a couple of our friends from the "shouldn't we talk fishing on a fishing site" have joined in this one

Definitely not the articsnowpatrolkaiserchiefmusekooksetc they are one band aren't they? or do they all just dress the same and sound the same??  and also sound horrendously crap live?

Not as bad as Jay-Z at Glasto - I listened for half an hour and then switched off

Why did you even put yourself through any of glastonbury? that's a collection of the worst bands around isnt it?

Bonzo Dog Do Da Band

Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band

Santana

The Temporance Seven

Dave Dee, Dozey, Beaky, Mitch & Titch

Guess I'm old, and apart from the third, these are just kidding.
