Has anyone any experience of these reels, are they any good?

Have one alright for the price. Main problem is that it stands along way of the rod due to the size of the foot as it incorparates the twist mecanism. If you want it i will sell for £20 have updated to a better pin

Sweet reel. Being plastic, not so cold to the touch in winter. More free-running than anything else without bearings, so pays out line to small floats in slow flows. Light, low-inertia spool. Downside: being built to sidecast, the arbour is very shallow, so probably prone to being moody in side-winds. And no check, but a drag which can be locked - assuming the friction pad hasn't fallen out, which mine did. (Rocket science cure - glued it back in.) Shop RRP about £45, ebayable at about £35, if offered for much less, GRAB!!! And enjoy!

geat write up by alan tyler, sums them up superbly, never used the side casting on mine ,these are australian made, where centrepins are widely used, trot very well and as alan says not so cold in winter,if they had a ratchet or a drag (the mechanism is for locking when side casting )they would rank very highly. can be got off ebay, codfather, for about £20 ,absolute bargain, will last a lifetime .

I use one and for the money they are good value. They are not as delicate as the silly money 'pins and will take rough handling. Very free running and will trot a light float down a sluggish river. I rarely use the side cast mechanism, but if you can't wallis cast, it will enable you to achieve those few extra yards
Only two downsides, first, to facilitate sidecasting it has a shallow spool, which can prove a problem in a side wind. However, if you have your line on the top of the reel rather than in the 'traditional' position on the bottom, its less of an issue.
Second, it has no ratchet which rules it out for ledgering.
However, if you are on a budget or want to try a 'pin and not break the bank, it comes recommended.
