i were glasses so i need clip on polaroids, but finding them thats any good is impossible ive not found any yet

I've tried for years and failed to find a decent set so now I've dug deep for some prescription polaroids. Well worth it in my experience.

Why do people call polarising glasses polaroids?

Polaroid is a brand name for a manufacturer of cameras and instant photo technology.

I used to work in a camera shop and people would ask for a polaroid filter when they meant a polarising filter.

Check here.

Unfortunately I don't know of any clip on types, sorry.

Polaroid have clip-ons in their range. I haven't seen them yet but hope to get a pair for review. I'm told they're very good.

Incidentally, people call polarising glasses Polaroids for the same reason they call free spool reels 'Baitrunners' and vacuum cleaners 'Hoovers'.

Usually the original and the best.

I've actually wondered about the Baitrunner thing. Don't Shimano have a problem with other manufacturers saying their reels have a 'Baitrunner' feature?

Dyson (for example) don't call their vacum cleaners Hoovers as I'm sure Hoover would come down like a ton of bricks.

Stikflote, sorry for hijacking the thread a bit.

Try here.

Stikflote, just look out for the 2 for 1 offer at any of the well known opticians and by paying a little bit more you can get your perscription glasses and one pair polaroids. I get mine from Specsavers, not always the cheapest but I've never had any problems. I have to have varifocals and I get one pair normal .and one pair "polarised"

i have my glasses from Specs, ive got prescription sunglasses, but im told it will cost an awful lot of money for prescription polarising glasses. That,s why i could do with some clip ons

Hi i checked link out but no clip ons ,thanks for reply
I don't know how much your prescription changes stickflote.A good pair of prescription glasses will be more cost effective, than a broken or bent set of clipons, which you have to replace more often ,if my experiences were anything to go by.
Just ahave a look at Optilabs..

Is it not possible to buy a pair of polarised sunglasses (the wraparound style) and wear them over normal glasses? I'm sure I've seen Matt hayes do this on Total Fishing!

Try Boots, I got my polarised sunglasses from there and they had clip-ons, a lot cheeper than optitions and just as good!

For wrap arounds as an alternative to clip ons, try:

20 years ago I ditched glasses for contact lenses - a good option if short or long sight without an astigmatism are your problem.

I never looked back, if you'll excuse the pun. They don't mist up and aren't affected by rain, and are much easier on the eyes than glasses.

If you last tried contacts back when they were made from glass or rigid plastic, try again; modern ones are really comfortable.

Look at it this way, too. Contact lenses for a year, about £170 including all the solutions. Polarising glasses (designed for fishing) £15 a pair. Glasses at least £100 a pair, then prescription polarisers (not designed for fishing) £150, plus another pair when you break them, as you most certainly will.

Alternatively get your eyes lasered. On the occasions when I wear glasses, I think they're a complete pain in the harris.
