hi folks,
thanks for the info.......its great that i started a debate......but hey guys i only wanted a bit of info, lifes to short to get to involved....its only a hobby........and yes i do take my fishing serious, and i respect the fish i catch, i am no glory hunter or fish bagger, i just like being out there doing what i love.........being at one with nature.
i only live in chesterfield, but getting a season ticket seems a bit over the top as i would only get to fish the trent a few times a year. but i would not mind paying for membership if it was good fishing.....and that goes for all species, barbel, chub, carp, roach, perch, pike, even bream.....i love em all.
once again thanks to you all, and keep those messages coming in,its all welcome.

Mark, A couple of years ago, the Environment Agency brought out an excellent booklet on the River Trent, listing all the streches and showing which areas are members only and which are day ticket stretches. It also showed which club contolled the water with contact details and areas where day tickets are available on the bank.

For any angler who travels to fish the Trent it was a must have. I don't know if the EA still produce this booklet, but it might be worth finding out.

The problem with just turning up on the banks of the Trent, is that a lot of areas do not have signs saying who owns the stretch and whether it is day ticket or members only.

Mark, there is miles of trent from above nottingham to bellow newark available on day tickets.

I know its a fair drive, but it realy is worth going down and spending a day driving round and doing a bit of bank walking and chatting to people fishing. get a good OS map of the area and check out all the access points.

I used to know this section of river like the back of my hand years ago, but after a long absence from the river forgot most of it and when i started fishing it again a couple of years ago concentrated on just one place.

one day last autumn i went down to fish but the weather was atrocious and so rather than waste a day and the petrol I just drove around visiting some of my old haunts and I'm realy glad i did as I now have loads of spots i want to try.

hi ian,
i have fished the don at spotborough for roach on the stick and its a classic river. i had to get the train from chesterfield, but it was well worth it......not having a car at the time it was a bit awkard but hey, is that what fishing is all about!
PS: i would be glad of any info about fishing in any areas of derbyshire, south yorkshire, lincs and notts.
regards.

Mark,
A1 pits stretch is a good one as you can night fish and park near the river-cheap too on Day ticket
Best bits around Newark are NPS and as such are unnatainable due to having to be voted in to the club-there are a few day ticket areas as tony said though.
Notts AA stretches are worth a book for £30ish Quid but more so around Nottingham
Gunthorpe,Beeston etc-good fishing too if you know where to look
For the journey though i would probably fish Collingham-its got big fish in it all along the stretch and cheap day tickets too

I didnt see your thread on BFW otherwise would have commented as its my local stomping ground and I fish all the above
My most consistent areas are on the NAA book.
I live near Mansfield so its a drive for me too

Regards Matt

thanks matt,
its good to know the info that you have given me, i only just the other side of tibshelf, but its just getting angie to let me take the car!!!
i went down that lane in collingham, to have a look but when i got there it said on the gate that it was a club water......can you fish there as it looks magic.
its right what others have said, unless you know the area well it all seems a bit vague!!

It is Collingham AA ,were you on thr right lane as it is hard to find, and (kills car suspension)
Day tickets on the bank-walk up to the weir for the best pegs-its hammered in summer but this time of year should be ok,although at the moment its probably flooded

thanks matt,
the lane i went down has a big sign that says RIVER TRENT and it runs for about a mile, then you get to a turning space right by the river i think there was a island in the middle to the left and a barge on the far bank to the right. it a very rough track and you pass some lagoons on the right.......am i on the right track.........no pun intended.....LOL!!!

Would you say that the Nottingham Angler's Association book would be the best one to get?. I live in Loughborough and spend most of my time fishing the River Soar but would like to spend more time on the Trent but not sure which club to join. If I can help with any info about the River Soar in return I would be glad to.

Java, What bits of the Soar do you fish?
Im pretty much the same as you in that i mostly fish the Soar but looking at some decent stretches of the trent, Been on the Trent a couple of times this year and found some nice spots that are not hammered, Get in touch mate.

Mark, island?? dunno where you are mate but your not near the weir, thats for sure

Java,
Notts AA -maybe could do a swap as my fishing partner lives in leicester and he is looking for places on the soar, maybe some recces with you to the soar and i'll gauruntee you some fish off the trent.

hi matzzzz
sorry mate, i got the island bit from somewhere else.......day dreaming again!!
i think the track i went down was the right one but i only got out the car and did not walk far i thought the banks were private so i did not go and have a look.
if i was on the right lane, i might go again soon and have a scout round.
