All depends on how far out your fishing. It also depends on the action of the rod.

I am planning on upgrading my rods in the new year,

I am undecided between the Greys prodigy or the Fox warrior elite, in 3ib TC.

I have read much about the Greys but not much about the Fox, are they worth £30 a rod more? or will the Fox be enough for what i want. I don't fish huge lakes, probably no more than 100yards but with my present 2.5lb TC rods, as soon as i put on a PVA bag i loose all control with casting.

Any advise would be appreciated.

I would go with the Grey's. personal prefrence.

In what way are you losing control on the cast. What size bag are you using and what size lead have you got on.

I normally fish with a 1.5 or 2oz weight, if im fishing just a single boilie i can pretty much place where i want the bait within a couple of feet. I generally only use a small PVA bag of 70x50 with mixed pellet or a PVA tube of 25mm diameter by no more than 80mm long. I loose alot of distance and am luck to be within 10 feet of my required spot. It may be that my rods are too whippy (shimano alivio 2.5lb TC) or it could just be that i have no confidence with the extra weight.

I only bought the rods for £15 at the go fishing show a couple of years ago so they have done me well, now i have some money to spend i'd like to get some new rods but don't want to be replacing them again very soon. I've also recently seen the Prodigy rods for sale at a tackle shop for £84.99 so my decision is pretty much made.

I've got the Greys Prodigies, had them for 3 years and I love 'em. Mine are 2.75T/C and will do more or less what I want them to do, I am not a distance caster by any means, but one of my mates is, he can get them to cast 120 yards wthout too much effort on a 3oz lead... Greys are releasing a new Prodigy soon, so you may want to wait for that one, it may even work that the old prodigies come down in price.

Go with maggot give the 2.75Ib a go the 3Ib will be a bit to stiff. Mine are the 2.75Ib and i have absolutley no problem with them.

Suggestion just get 1 try it. If no good get the 3Ib you can always use that one for closer work.

I forgot to say those casting distances are with Shimano 8000GTEB's not pit reels, with a pit reel he reckons he could get 150 - 170 out of them, even more with a tourney lead and shockleader, my set up is 12 line with a 3oz pear, I don't fish the distances so I don't feel shockleaders are necessary...
