i find that it is better to use a nail varnish on knots is better than super glue .

it is a lot safer no glued fingers or tackle.and is fine in water.

stopped using super glue years ago when I had a knot "break"

I couldn't do without nail varnish in my tackle box now...

I find it adds that certain 'je ne sais pas' that was always missing from my previous catch shots....

Sorry Brian, couldn't resist!

H'mmmm, but....what if....you are on the bank....and you want to stick a couple of little pellets together to onto a hair rig!....if it can do that, I am in!....I have a large collection of pellets now firmly glued to the leg of me fishing trousers!

Cakey is right about super glue, you need to be very careful with it,  and its dependant on the type of glue and the type of material you use it on, if you glue a knot together and then examine it undeer the microscope you will see that in some cases the glue will attack the material and weaken it, in other cases the glue will dry too had and also dry jagged at the ends over the material, this will act like a blade and on the end of the material bending, the fibres will cut and weaken the  the material.

Good knots should not require any form of glue and I think 1 out of ten times the addition is glue is used withough thought and to give the angler confidence only, it really serves not purpurse in strenghtening a good knot.

Some knots don`t work with certain lines, make sure you are using the right knot for the material you are knotting ( Chilly Dave has done a lot of good research on this), the old Ghost was an excellent line, but the knotless knot didnt work with it.

If you really must use a glue you need a glue which does not dry hard and will not attack the material you are using, some type of polymer may work but it will take longer to dry, could be harmfull to water like and really is a waste of time, just use good appropriate well tidied knots, that really is all you need ans the knot will always be the weakest part of the line anyway, regardles of whgat anyone tells you.

I love knots

these days when you buy line or braid or anything else that needs tying stick with the recommended knot !

they have done all the hard work for you and all the knot testing etc so why take a chance

like Monk and Cakey say use the knot recommended.

I used nail varnish, deep red with Glitter in it, but could never get in the night clubs

I have only ever used supper on a knot when tying a leader to fly line using a needle knot. the supper glue is only used to cover the rough knot so that it will travel through the eyes better. This has been recommended in several books by top fly anglers.

but what do they know Ged...........................

Apparently quite a lot.

Must admit, the knot has never let me down. I do know supper glue can melt certain materials. Fortunately, someone else had already tried it with fly line and mono leaders.

Last time I was night fishing...I stuck a pellet to my finger, it still had a long breakdown time with soap and water. Never use the glue on knots though.

cant remember the name of the glue I put round my leader knots etc

but I will look tomorrow and let you know !

Why You using glue anyway? If they are tied properly you shouldn't need any!
