 hey guys thankyou again for all your help. the Kevlex Xtreme Barbel does look like a good idea, still not sure whether 1 rod can do it all, may be ok at many things but, may always be a compramise. Chris what j w youngs rods did you get? i have been looking at them and they are stunning!

 Just a quick update, I fished the 1.25lb top greys on a still water today, used it as a "quivertip" with a maggot feeder. I also had a bait runner as there were carp in the water, Every take by a carp was indicted by the tip before the baitrunner engaged ( even on the lightest setting), a small perch(about 4 oz) gave an inch or so of twitch, a 3 lb carp flapped the tip by about 6 inches. In comparision to the 4oz carbon tip on my hyperloop feeder the movement were far more extreme, The big advantage was that as it was windy, the greys was far more stable whereas the quivertip kept "bouncing" in the breeze. In conclusion, the greys is fine as a heavy quivertip rod, just dont expect delicate indication, but the back bone it had playing 5 and 6 lb carp was impressive, Hope that is of some use.

 Jim, for your requirements I`d personally opt for the 1.5tc Fox Duo. It has more than enough backbone to subdue Barbel and with the sensitive quivertips will detect shy bites from Chub, Perch etc.

 a 1.5 t/c test curve rod is plenty man enough in all but the most extreme set ups.the more we mess about with these things the harder it gets.it is not rocket science.

 A Greys 2 .5 t/c will do the job ....had 3... 8lb barbel from fast /deep water on the Teme and was a wonderfull rod to use,but i heard that Fox have rods that are just as good,but what ever you do dont buy cheap tackle and get advice from fellow Anglers and not from tackle dealers as they will just want to sell you there best mark-ups...but once again my friend ,go for Greys or Fox..good luck

 Jim, I have bought a pair of the J W Young Ray Walton 11ft 1.6lb barbel rods. Thay are stunning and i cant wait to christen them properly. If they fish half as good as they look i will be a happy boy. The model I went for is a straight barbel rod no quiver tips as a rarely use them. Chris P.S have a look at ebay !!

 if you live near a shop that sells them have a look at the grauvelle 1.2 lt a super little rod that is very thin and very lite 11 ft it comes with 2 tips one a avon and the other has 3 push in quiver not a well known make but a very very good rod and at around £65 a nice price to ?

 Second that.The Grauvell rods are terrific & oustanding value.I got an LT for roach & chub but I think the next one up [the MT] might be a better bet for barbel.That's rated at 1.5lb tc but again with both an avon & quiver top with 3 tips.

 Malc - looking at Jim's requirements I think a 2.5lb tc might be a little on the heavy side. Furthermore, I can't think of any (please correct me if I'm wrong) situations where they might be needed for barbel. Certainly not the 8lb variety. By the way, the Hyperloop XT's pretty versatile - as already mentioned. Bought mine on Ebay for £40.

No ones mentioned the Korum quiver or twin tips yet. I have 2 twin tips, excellant for floods, carping etc. Quiver, again excellant. Used for chubbing etc. I think there is a review on here somewhere. All rods under £100 if you search about. I recommend them highly. Rob

 i got the prodigy 2lb with quivers and love them broke 1 in with a 5lb chub on a 2oz tip
