Jason, I am an enthusiastic user of braid and use it a lot but only for ledgering or on the surface when piking. I use 4lb when targeting winter roach, 6lb when targeting chub and smaller barbel,8lb when after big bream and tench(my favorite species), 10lb when after big barbel or chucking a method to carp up to say 10lbs or so and use 30lb for big carp (very very rarely) and pike. What you must be careful of is to use a tippier rod than usual, so when you have a fish ready for netting and it lunges you do not get a hook pull. You will find that mono is best for waggler fishing but you must get a sinking one.
ALSO WITH BRAID YOU DO NOT NEED TO STRIKE AT ALL ---PLEASE JUST LIFT INTO THE FISH ! !
