I have not fished for many many years, and have never used a bait- runner.

Not to be ignorant, could I have a simple explanation on how to use one.

The one I  have in my possession ia s a Carp Kinetics. Power -Runner. PX 500.

It has a Gear Ratio 5,2:1

when the baitrunner facility is switched on it allows line to be taken from the spool when a fish picks up the bait without setting the clutch.it stops fish pulling your rod in, when you turn the reel handle it disengages the baitrunner facility and allows you to play the fish as normal.it is mostly used with bite alarms to give you time to get to your rods.
