bought 3 yesterday at the nec ones going on my specimen net handle for a start.

Just put an order in for three, one for each of my landing nets, I zero my scales with which ever net I'm using and weigh most of my fish without taking them out of the net. This is going to be so much easier now.

John,

You need to zero your scales every time you weigh a fish to get accurate results. From the point I zero mine I don't put the scales down and am very careful not to jolt them. It is also amazing how much a weight sling or net for that matter will vary in weight depending on the amount of water, slime and muck on it.

Anlgers also tend to forget that you need the sclaes to hang vertically toget an accurate reading holding the scales by their sides can lead to significant errors.

To my mind if it's worth weighing at all then its worth weighing properly.

While we are on about scales, just a warning to others who may like I did test their line breaking strength. The kick back from breaking 12lb line caused some damaged to the teeth on the plastic rack and pinion within the scales as well as not being able to zero the scales.
It was possible to reposition the rack and pinion so that the scales worked, however, I now set the scales to read 2lb with which ever landing net head I use then deduct the 2lb from the total weight. I’ve check the accuracy of my scales at work and they’re to within plus or minus 1/2oz, which is the width of the pointer either side of a division line. I’m fully aware of how to hold the scale etc. Hopefully, I’ll start the new season with a new set of digital scales, at the moment finances are a bit tight, I’m one of those who’s car tax, MOT, service and insurance have all fallen in the same month. I don’t think our lass would be very happy bunny if I hit our finances with a bill of £70 plus of a set of digital scales!

John, on the advice of someone on this site last autumn, I bought some Berkeley digital scales and all they cost was £20.
They're ideal size, accurate and I consider them excellent value for money

Thanks Graham I’ll see if I can source a supplier, if in the meantime anyone knows where I can purchase such, please post the information, thanks

Just been online and Swiftys Fishing Tackle Online Shop are selling Berkeley Digital Scales (50lbs) @ £31.99 which come with a lifetime battery.
Thanks again Graham.
