Hi everyone, I've been reading the site for a while now(and loving it) as I am quite new to fishing. I am about to try some river fishing and was wondering if anyone can recomend some good stick or avon floats that don't cost the earth. I live in Bristol so most of the rivers I will be trying to fish are not that fast flowing and most are not that big. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Ian.

Hi Ian

Some floats cost about £1.50,  £2 round where I live  - I'm not an experinced river angler so I'll leave it to other to advice

Hi ian welcome ,i do a bit of river fishing but on this site are good anglers living in your neck of the woods who will best advise you ..........cue mr spiller.
You could make your own if money is that scarce.  Odd bit of balsa, cork strip, cane, electric drill and sandpaper.  Oh, and some glue and varnish, although the latter isn't too important with cork which is naturally bouyant.

Thanks for the advice so far people . I am still not sure what makes of float are any good, I want to buy ones I can keep using and not waste my money on rubbish which will be no good. Don't know if I am confident enough to try and make my own yet!

Have a read of this handy article(it's in 3 parts) :

Thanks ED, I have had a look at it and not only does it look good and save money but it looks quite satisfying to be able to make and fish with your own floats. Great article
