I'm going on a family holiday in early July, staying in a village called Woolhope, which is between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye.

Naturally, a rod and few bits of gear might accidentally fall into the car whilst I am packing it.

I am intersted if anyone can point me in the right direction of any day ticket stretches that are say 10 - 20 mins away?

I've got PAAS membership and they have a couple of Wye streches, but I've heard they aren't very clever.

I also did a search and saw Grahams article and a few threads about the Wye, but they were all a couple of years old and things can of course change.

Can anyone help with any advice on where to fish and particularly any good float fishing areas?

Thanks.
Go to Woody's tackle shop in Hereford. Paul Woodward will be able to help with advice and Hereford day tickets. I've had barbel on the float on the Hereford day ticket water. The man knows every swim thereabouts.

Fownhope and Holme Lacy (by the bridge) both fishable on a day ticket obtainable on the bank. Mordiford which is the confluence where the Lugg joins the Wye is day ticket obtainable from the post office in Mordiford.

The Belmont waters above Hereford, the tennis courts in Hereford town and Bartonsham below the town are all day ticket (From the shop) and another cracking stretch is The Carrots (a pub) but this one entails a good walk so go light but it contains some good chub and barbel fishing.

Thanks Graham. That's excellent. Just had a quick look and they look just minutes away away and pay on the bank is better still.

I won't be taking much gear, so the walk isn't a problem either.

Cheers for that.

Paul......Mark and Graham give you good advice.....i may bump into you, my caravan is near by!

If you want pleasure travel light and have a good walk.......bread as bait, wait untill the evening...........forget the tales of record breaking Wye/Lugg monsters just suck in the surroundings and chill out!

This type of fishing needs very little tackle and fits in very nicely with a family holiday.........especially in Herefordshire!

There,s day ticket stretches of the Wye at Ross, tickets available from Wye Angling or GB Sports in Ross, who both sell day tickets for other stretches too.

As a Wye-sider, the best advice I could give is beware the flotilla,s of canoes ! Fish either early, or late, and spend the middle part of the day with the family, but as a poster said earlier, most of all, enjoy it !

The Belmont Hotel just outside Hereford on the Abergavenny Road controls a mile of the Wye and I believe that it is fishable on a day ticket.

Woody is the guru on the Wye Paul. I would go as far to say that it would be foolish for a stranger to go there for a holiday without getting his help from the off.

Dont be at all surprised if fishing Belmont especially you hook into a huge river carp as well. They are most certainly there.

Paul asked the original question 2 years ago, just saying like!
