Give it some more thought.

The boilie stops are on lead core which will be on the bottom.

The heavy weight plus tension on the main line will be helping to pin them there.

The rig is for over silt so they'll be part buried anyway.

Carp feed by sucking the bait in, they don't pick food directly off the bottom, especially when it's in silt.

Hovering above the two boilie stops is an easy to get at (which is the idea) pop-up boilie.

The boilie stops are not particularly visible; they can't be sucked in; there's a boilie hovering above them that doesn't make it easy for any carp to get at them. If it could I don't believe it could pick them up, it certainly couldn't suck them up.

So even a 'highly intelligent' carp would go for the bait.

Yes, you could present that bait with two plastic stops, but they wouldn't be giving off the added flavour of the boilie stops in the area of the bait.

Conclusion: the rig is safe and the boilie stops add to its effectiveness.

Frothy have you tried the roundabout rig??

I have, but i just couldn't get to grips with it, and went round and round in circles.

WTF is a roundabout rig?... lol!

frothey the roundabout rig i hear is supposed to be magic    lol

The roundabout rig is a heavy inlinelead, attaached to the swivel is a 2" diameter round loop of very thick and stiff mono, sliding around the mono circle/loop this is a curved longshank swivel hook,it is fished with a pop up.The thory according to the angler and magazine that published it is that the pop up will be held under tension by the mono, from which ever direction the Carp approaches the hook will slide along the mono and immediately swivel into the mouth and prick the Carp. Its basically a mutation of the swivel rig. When I stopped laughing I jus could not work out how it could ever be cast or fished effectivly unless it was possible for every rig to be placed by hand on a perfectly smooth and level lake bed!!

Nice peace but i think there is one thing missing, should there not be a peace of silicone on the bend of the hook????

This would then make the bait sit above the hook, so when the carp sucks in the boilies the hook is there also.

My son has used the Chod rig many times with great success, you can use it on just about any lake bed, but yes it is good over silt.

i met the guy who "invented" it, he gave it to one of the lads who was fishing and he dropped the next 3 fish.

it  was designed for a specific application though.....

Interesting,I must admit that I thought it was another armchair rig,I still cant understand tho how it can be any more effective than a swivel hook rig/with an overweighted pop up used in conjunction with a stiff boom and flexiring swivel.I would have thought this would be more effective. However I dont use such rigs anyway so I aint qualified to say...

dont get me wrong, he's done very, very well on it - but it was designed for a specific use, not neccesarily everyday situations. its like the "clumper" rig nik helleur came up with (i think) - it was designed to be placed, not cast, yet everyone moans that it wont sit properly when cast, hook pops out, etc, etc, etc.

Well Im glad he's done well it.

Definately a rig that has to be placed.

Thats my reason for not using these kinda rigs. The majority of my fishing involves a cast of some sort and lets face we never can be exactly sure of what the rig is gonna land on,we only have our best educated guess.I need to be confident that my rig aint tangled and is fishing as well as possible(I hope).

I have used the stiff boom swivel type rigs when stalkin where I can see that the rig is fishing properly and jolly effective they are but due to the fact that I have to cast and I personally I dont find them good casting rigs. Its all down to confidence.

Cheers

hi, when the carp has the hook in its mouth and you have a short hook link, say 2"to 3", wont the lead keep hitting him in the head and eye area?
Show/hide user stats

no, as (a) the eyes are more than 2-3" away from the fishes mouth (unless you're catching pasties, and (b) the lead would still be below the swivel anyway.

people dont seem to be worried about tight mono or braid flicking over the fishes eyes....

or the hook in its gob.............
