Forum Updates - Help Guide

I went into PC World today to have a look at ear phones. I wanted the ones that sit on your ears rather than those irritating ones that go into your ears.

Ok, so I see there some Philips ones at £7.99 - choice of white ones or some black ones that are adjustable, both racks marked at the same price - £7.99. So I like the black ones and take them to the till. I pay for them and only when I get outside do I see the bill and they're charged at £19.99!

Go back and tell the girlie, the price on the stand clearly states £7.99. She then tries to tell me that it's a different item code on the stand price to the one on the packet. Oh sure, the prices is in 48pt font and the code is in 8 point font, like I'd know. She could refund me the difference if the codes matched or she could take the price off the stand for 24 hours and then put them back up at the correct price of £19.99.

At which point I hit the roof!

Legally, because the advertised price was £7.99 I demanded that it was I paid. She (all of 19 years old) tried to tell me that she is not obliged so to do. "MANAGER" I called. He took one look and said, "Since the entire rack is full of that type of earphone and the price was marked at £7.99 that's all you should pay, SIR! If it was just the odd pair in amongst the cheaper items, then it could be put down to another customer putting one back on the wrong stand."

Bear this in mind, you do have rights and what she said was WRONG! The manager was correct, but if I'd asked someone beforehand to confirm the price and they told me there was an error then I wouldn't have got the deal. However, in this case I was duped into buying an item I thought was sold for one price and then been charged a much higher one.

Fight for you civil rights! Don't let the b*****ds grind you down!

The Moaning Marlow Meldrew wins again!

Nice one Woody .......... a good result

As i understand it Victor....but i'm only your common or garden scallywag, not a learned man in a wig....a displayed price is only an invite to buy..........not a binding contract?

However....bullying to take possesion is a sin?

i shopped at a local dept store who are paranoid about price stickers to the extent that they put a price sticker on every thing, god knows where they get them but they are impossible to remove ,we took a large wheel along travel bag along to the tills and a basket containing£35 worth of goods ......anything in the case sir? the woman asked,...no i replied ........would you open it up please ?........thinking i had been suspected of lying and attempted theft i said i do not know how to open the case you see i have never tried..........the woman put the case on the till slide and opened it up....empty .    ......while its open can we put these -[the other goods]?... in it yes by all means .in went the goods the case was zipped up and the wife paid by debit card.

at this point ithought my wife had suffered a stroke as she started mumbling out the side of her mouth gerrout gerrout ,outside she explained that the super efficient till worker had only charged for the case and in effect transformed two honest citizens into desperados.........we made the car in 30 seconds

back of the net  !!!

Sssssshhhhhhhhhhhh!

"a displayed price is only an invite to buy"

Yes and no. They can refuse to serve you, true. In this case they had sold me the item, but at a higher price than was displayed/advertised so they were in the wrong.

.

My point is that in this country we always seem apologetic for other peoples mistakes. Someone bumps into you in the street and you apologise to them? Someone overcharges you in a store or cafe and most people just accept it if it's only a few bob out.

What irks me most is in Asda where product is placed on shelves with NO price so you haven't a clue what the hell you are buying at - or - the WRONG price is indicated in front of the products. We even bought some items once from their 2 for £2 freezer and they tried to charge us £3.40 for them at the till. Here I was unsuccessful, but only because there wasn't a senior manager available to attend (probably all hiding when they saw me). We were told that the offer started at midnight - 3½ hours away. However, we left them (defrosting) at the checkout.

Half the time its shelf fillers with no brains and most of the time it's downright lazyness. Either way, it's time the BRITISH stood up for their rights!

But on the bright side Woody, when the advert for Asda is on the telly, that bird gives her bottom a jolly good spanking. And if you dont like that, you must "bat for the other side!"

I did that for a woman in Asda last week.

my case comes up in August.

Look, I probably should not tell you this but........

PC World is great for shop lifting. 90% of the time you cant find any staff as the spotty little bastards are round the back having a fag!

Don't get me wrong Victor.....i'm all for standing up for ourselves.....my missus cringes at me in supermarkets!

I just wish you lot in the wigs would sort the scrotes who come up in front of you out!...............or let ex scrotes like me who saw the light dish out the fatigues!!!!

What is Woody doing in a wig?...I thought he was "Bill Sykes" (aka beating Nancy the tarty bird up in Oliver and stuff) in his spare time?

Watch carefully at the checkout if you're tempted by any "buy one get one free" offers. A couple of weeks ago Morrisons were doing such an offer on their 100g packs of smoked salmon which are normally £1.99 per pack. I took 2 packs but at the checkout I noticed that the woman passed both packs over the scanner and each time it registered £1.99. When I queried it she said that the computer would automatically delete one of them so I paid the bill but before walking away I checked the bill and there they were as 2 separate items each for £1.99. I asked for a refund but the assistant manager had to be called and he then had to go and check that there really was a BOGOF offer on that item before I got my money. He was very apologetic and assured me that he would make the necessary changes to the scanning computer immediately.

I'm not accusing anyone of trying to rip me off, it's just that one should never trust how computers read the bar codes. They're only as accurate as the information fed into them.

"you lot in the wigs"

I don't wear a wig!

.

Except when I'm cross dressing. It would look stupid then, bird with big bussoms in a skirt with a bald napper. What would people think of me?

Another tip. If the price that you paid is wrong to what was advertised, when they go back to check the shelf, go with them. They sometimes take of the wrong price and swear that you are wrong.
