Hi, i'm new in here. And i would already need some help

Does any of you know anything about this reel?
Is it a centre-pin or just a a fly fishing reel.  Would it be a cood buy?

Sorry for the dumb questions, but centre-pins are rarely seen here in Finland.

I doesn't appear to be a fly reel, which usually have a single handle.  However, I do not recognise it as any model I have seen in the UK.  Any idea regarding the dimensions of the reel, which looks quite large.  Spool diameter etc, in imperial rather than metric might give a clue?

I'm pretty sure I've seen them on Ebay; in which case it's Russian or Ukrainian. Definitely  a centre-pin. A seller called "Segrwolf" sold them. I bought a different, heavier model from him and it was OK. They're "cheap and cheerful", probably a decent  starter centre-pin for roach and chub, but I'm not sure how strong it would be,  so I'd get something sturdier if carp or barbel were the target. A fair enough buy at 20-40 euros, I'd think.

It's a Russian made centerpin of which there are many thousands in circulation it was all anglers in Russia could buy for a great many years and many of them are very skilled in using one.

They usually have a couple of ball races on which they run but the standard of construction leaves a great deal to be desired by western standards.

Many years ago they would have been described as being of tin plate  construction as they were knocked up on press brakes.

However it has to be said that they do work.

As to the value .....there were a couple of lads from the Ukraine flogging them on ebay for quite a while they seemed to average about £13 each

Alan Roe is correct they are Russian I have two bought in Russia. I paid less than a £5 each for them. They despite their look work perfectly for trotting on the Ribble. The only drawback is the check on them is quite severe.

Somewhere I have an e-mail translation from a Russian friend of what the box says about the reel. If I can find it I'll post it.

BTW Alan you have used one of mine at the Lancashire Show, the first year it was held at Ribchester.

Thank you all for your help.

So i'ts a Russian, huh.
Even though it doesent cost much (11euros) i will definetly pass it.

If enyone is interested, it's for sale in Finnish version of ebay. Link:Russian centre-pin<a href="http://www.huuto.net/fi/showitem.php3?itemid=86692146" title="blocked::http://www.huuto.net/fi/showitem.php3?itemid=86692146"></a>

Here's what my friend sent me regarding the reel

"Having a look at JPEG file, you've sent to me, I recognize "NEVSKAYA" center pin reel, manufactured in Russia for many years. I bought my first one in the 70-s. In my city there is only one tackle shop that sells them. The retail price is 370 roubles, that is equal to 10 euro at today's exchange rate. The leaflet on  boxes both on your file and the one in the shop are absolutely the same. Only the name of the reel (NEVSKAYA) and no name of the manufacturer. One thing they told me, is that it's made in St.Petersburg."
