My fishing buddy is doing a session in a couple of days and is hoping to catch a bream. The lake we fish contains fish of a very high average size so there is a fair chance that if he has a fish it will smash his P>B. by a mile. Unfortunately I am not going to be able to fish with him this time round so he asked if it was a good idea to put bream in a carp sack so that I can pop down and photograph it as soon as possible (if all goes according to plan!) I could not honestly answer the question although my gut instinct would be not to do it. Neither of us would want to put any fish in unecessary danger, so is it a big no-no or is sacking bream fairly common practice providing it's done in deep enough water and for as shorter time as possible?

i would personally sack the bream because i cant see what benefit they could be if they worked in the same industry as me. you would be better off employing someone who did not deposit slime everywhere.

A definite NO in my view! I know two anglers who lost three fish through them being in sacks. The sack clings to the gills and bream don’t seem to be able to expand the gill plates sufficiently to get enough oxygen into their blood.
Use the Queenford system as sold by Hat-Trick.

Disco Stu, have you been taking those crazy dancing pills again?! Not quite what I was expecting but i suppose i should have seen it coming! LOL Phil, I suspected as much. I know bream can sometimes have a funny habit of losing their balance and tipping over as well which concerned me a bit. Unfortunately the Queenford isn't going to be an option in time so he'll have to make do with an unhooking mat/rod/net/fish combo I think.

Take your photo and put them back. Think of the health of the fish not your own ego!

Not sure they are still available are they?
Cool. As I said my gut instinct was that it's not a good idea so I'll tell him not to. Geoff I would never put a photo opportunity over the safety of a fish mate so don't worry about that. I think I'll have a look into the Queenford thing though.

Queenford Retention System is available from Wol Gaunt at £25.00.

modern carp keepnets do bream no harm over a reasonable period of time but not in shallow wind lashed water
I dont think sacks should be used for any fish, ban them. As has been said a well staked out keepnet, in my veiw the best way for all fish, even Barbel. That will get some blood running.
Can i borrow some of your sacks on Blenheim Ray?.
Not allowed to use any form of fish retaining there anymore. Will contact you Wednesday regarding the palace.
OK Ray, Can see it now. Arise Sir Morespiders
I can't believe you're even thinking about going near the palace again Spidee man. Can't you remember what happened last time???
My memory isn't what it used to be Steve, Pray tell. Wasn't with one of the corgi's was it?.
You got banged up! She hates single fathers now!
Be ok mate, going to Blenheim Palace, not Bucko Palace with Mr Clarke
I know mate, hope you have a great time Who's Mr Clarke? Is that the bloke they refer to as the ginger whinger? Anyway, NO, don't sack any fish. As Mr Clarke says, a well staked out keepnet is fine and keep an eye on the fish to make sure it's okay.
Im going to be more worried about Mr Clarke peeing himself while out in the punt Steve, or spending most of the day going backwards and forwards to the toilets Mr Clarkes the Daywalker
