Sorry if this thread is in the wrong spot!!
I'm going to fish a lake for the first time ever on Sunday, Lodge in Milton Keynes, an MKAA water.
As some might be aware I'm still a novice (though improving I hope!!). I waas looking for advice on tactics, having only fished the canal I'm unsure how best to approach this type of water. Better still if anyone has fished it!!
"Whether their taste is for carp into the mid 20's of for double figure bags of roach, bits and skimmers, 10 acre Lodge Lake is a firm favourite with many. Crusians, tench and perch, the association records crucian is from Lodge. Fishing from more than 40 permanent pegs only, depths vary from 2 to 18 feet and most baits works at sometime of the year. Don't ignore the little pond where the brook comes in under the H5. It is up to 10 feet deep, holds stacks of fish. A nice 18lb Mirror was recently taken from here" - taken from the MKAA website
So any and all advice would be grateful...
Thanks
Andy

I have said it before on here, I wish MKAA had a forum. They have a web site and sooo many lakes and rivers on their books it would be great to talk to other people who have fished, and how they got on.
Sorry, have only walked round lodge lake in the closed season, not fished it. I would try to target one particular species, if its the big carp you are after then normal carp tactics apply, and if you are after the crucians and smaller fish, a waggler dotted down to detect the shy bites. I think its small lumps of meat or casters, or the good old maggot for the latter. Or even try pellet. Give them all a go and tell us how you get on.

Not quite the same thing but why don't you start a few threads on the venues section on here re MKAA waters and then try to get word round so that they can do their reports on here and start threads in other sections to discuss them.

Had a small perch and my first ever Carp!! I was most happy!! Only 2 or 3lb.. But it fought alot more than the bream I have from the canal...
I used 6lb line and simple leger setup and a lump of hair rigged luncheon meat!!
Only 2 fish but I came away a happy bunny!!

 Nice one Andy, well done.
Where abouts on the lake did you fish....its very deep in parts if I remember ?

i fished the pond over the back... Went back again yesterday, again fished luncheon meat.... Had 3 great runs but all took me into the snags and my hooklength snapped.... Bummer but my lad enjoyed himself, scourge of the perch he is!! ha ha
Gonna go back soon and have another try... But I'll upgrade my line and fish straight through to the hook...
Also got some PVA bags to try and make sure I get some bait around my rig!!

If i fish straight through to the hook... how do i tie a hair rig?
Divvy i know but which knot??

Lodge Lake is a nice little lake, when you get bored on there give Teardrops (MKAA) a go next spring before it gets too much pressure as the summer goes on. The 1st lake (With the stepping stones in it) has all sorts in it with carp up to 25lb and a few nice Tench and Bream.
Well, the Hair Rig is tied with using the 'knotless' knot Andy, dead easy. Much easier if you see a picture of it than me make a mess of describing it using words, just use Google and you should see what i mean. I think you'll find it cant be tied straight to the mainline and you'll need a hooklink like normal (Unless anyone else knows how to).

I don't think you can tie a hair rig and have it going "straight through" as you need an end to put through the eye of the hook to make the knotless know. the only way I know is to use a swivel and tie both ends to the swivel and of course this is not "straight through". If anyone knows different I would love to know.

just make a small loop at the bottom of the line then slide the hook down the line . hold the hook and line together twist the line coming out the top of the eye around the hook shank and turn the line 7 times around the shank whilst still holding the line as close as possible next to each other then pull the line that you have twisted back through the eye but at the front of the hook and you are done. liam foster tight lines. ps soz bout the punctuation im doing it quickly im in ict but fishin is much better lol bye
