I bought a Carp wraggler style float rod last year in a rush before I went on holiday to the Warks Avon as I could,nt find my old float rod at the time . I never used the rod till this year on a couple of carp puddles to fill in time until the glorious 16th caught a couple of small carp and some tench up to a couple of pound the action of the rod was like it was made of jelly rod bent double with every fish god knows what it would be in June when I target the bigger tench I use my JW Avon rod usually for float fishing the tincas no problem really but pinged a quite a few times so hence why I amm looking a float rod with a bit more tippy action any suggestions?

The Drennan Tench float rod is supposed to be the business, but it is a bit pricey. £100 +.
I have been useing the Wilson rod and have managed Tench to 5.5 lb on it. It does bend double but that's what I prefer as I can feel every movement the Tench makes (ledgering).
I also feel safer with a soft actioned rod when the Tench is under the rod tip ready for netting.
I still wouldn't mind a Drennan though.

The Drennan Tench rod was designed and built with big Tench in mind, I think it has a test curve of 1.25 the same as one of my rods which I find absolutly superb. A rod with an action such as the Drennan will also allow you to use finer lines. With plenty of power in reserve at the butt end.

You could always look out for a Hardy Matchmaker on ebay - it's what I use most of the time!

If the latest Drennan is anything like the original it should be damn near perfect; I remember agonising over getting one of the first ones in the late 1980's but the £80-odd price tag put me off - two weeks wages in them days. Shame they've gone and put one of those wretched fixed reel seats on the new one though.

I use a 13ft Zebco Rhino Special Heavy match rod for my tench fishing, a great rod and not that expensive either. It's had plenty of abuse over the last two years but for Tench fishing in weedy conditions it's the best rod I have used. Caught quite a few Carp last season and it handles them with ease.

Bought another last year as a spare I think it cost £60-£70.

I have the Drennan Mk III tench float rod.

It's a wonderful tool. They were designed by Peter Drennan in conjunction with Peter Stone originally and are true classics.

Fred is right, I have the original Drennan Tench Float rod and perfection for the task is totally the right description.

I too prefer the original sliding reel fittings.

I have been using my Greys power float for the last 2 seasons. Excellent rod.

I picked up a super tench float not long back for 60rips. As Bazza said, they are very good even with light bottoms(say 0.10-0.12), they have plenty of 'reserve' power yet are quite forgiving when small fish are hooked also. Deffo well worth a look!

I agree 100% on the Tench Float rod, i have the MK1 version bought in the early 90s- and to be honest i hav'nt come across any rod thats as good in it's class- it'a a fantastic tool. Thses carbon blanks were not made in the far east back then like they are now.
