Can anyone suggest an Avon style rod suitable for float and leger/feeder fishing? I'm looking for a rod with a transport length of about 36 inches i.e. a 4 piece 12 feet rod.
I haven't been able to find out the dimensions for the John Wilson, but I suspect it's not what I need. Anyone tried the Shakespeare Ganza Dual Tip?

Cheers.

I have a Fox 12ft 2lb TC 4 piece rod which was listed as a "Floater Special". I don't know if they still do it in their range as I bought it about 2-3 years ago. It certainly fits the bill on size and seems quite versatile however I have never used it for smaller fish so I don't know how the bite indication will be in this respect.

I've got a few of this type of rods.
Harrison Sulis 4 piece 1 1/4lb TC oomes in a nice hard tube they also do (have not hgot this one) an Avon 4 piece 1 1/4lb (slightly heavier that their 2 peice (Checkout the web site)
I also have 2 x Korum Quod rod 2lb TC(not used them yet & now discontinued but you can pick them up)would make an ideal travel rod line rating is 5lb to 15lb designed for heavy float to method feeder. Was looking for something for travel to replace my 2 1/4 carp rod yet to find out.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Harrison rods look interesting, but a bit pricey. I'm returning to coarse fishing after a gap of many years, and to begin with want something fairly cheap to go with my 4 piece Shakespeare carp rod, which I initially bought for light sea fishing. I've found the Shakespeare Ganza Dual Tip PMF, which seems to be just what I need, but no-one has one in stock!

Chas, have you done a google on it mate, there's quite a few shops that come up if you do!

Have a look at the Masterline John Wilson Tele avon. A nice rod , much better than your usual tele's (but a bit pricier).
Have a look at the reviews on this site. WMAC have them in stock I think.

Bought a cheap float rod today, just to be going on with, and when I got home I had a reply from Masterline suggesting the John Wilson Project M Avon (the old Ideal rod). Looks like I'll be going for that.

I had a John Wilson Tele Avon - it snapped the first time I tried to cast a feeder!

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Assuming you weren't trying something silly (like a 4oz method feeder) did you try complaining to Masterline? You may have had a faulty one. I've cast a small gb feeder with mine and it was ok.

Can't remember how heavy the feeder was, but it wasn't anything over the top. I received a full refund from the supplier. Shame, as it looked a good piece of kit - nice travel case.

Had a similar thing with a Shimano feeder rod, sent it back twice with a broken top section. The third one is still going strong after ten years!
