Ok- hands up the bright spark who came up with the idea of keep-nets with floating plastic rings!

Since mine is beautifully buoyant, what do other people use to weight down theirs, please? I do have some rope and an old car battery kicking around but it's a b*gger hauling it out at the end of a session......

A bank stick either end does the trick.

Eddie - not if you're on a steep bank and can't get a bank stick into the far end of the net! Round here, it'e either too shallow close in or too deep. It's usually a case of weighting the far end and bunging it out....

I havent used one for ages mate but when I fished deeper waters and canals I staked the top end out as normal, then kept the final ring out of the water and staked this out as well, and stretched the net out fully, sometimes a large extending bankstick is useful for this.

In canals it stopped the net being swept around by boats, and in deeper water fish can use the net long ways if you know what I mean.

You could try tying some large leger weights to the rings....seen that done before.

Jim,

If you have to use a weight please make sure thta it is on the OUTSIDE of the net. I have seen far too many fish that have been amaged due to anglers using loose weights inside a keepnet. What happens is that the weight bumps the fish when you empty them for weighing at the end of a session or match.

Better to invest in some lead wire and weave this around the end ring of your keepnest.

Alternatively as Eddie says, clever use of banksticks is a safe bet.

Well, I think I have a solution! There are 2 plastic delta-rings, presumably for a bank-stick, on the last ring. I've attached a carabiner to each and then clip on a plastic "string" shooping bag with enough stones for whatever the water needs.

No, Peter, I wouldn't dream of putting any weights inside, it's a crazy thing to do!
