Pole Spares
Is there a formula governing their price?

As Peter Jacobs and I had a cracking afternoon's pole fishing when a freak gust of wind caused through (a bit of careless ness) turning over our boxes with brollies (mine not even up) us to have a couple of broken pole sections.

What I need to know for research purposes is whether anyone knows if there is a formula by which the cost of replacement sections is determined? ie is there a percentage for each section so that regardless of original price you would have some idea of replacement for say a no 8 section at 20%.

. . . . . . . and if anyone out there has an old Milo 10-10 that they want to sell for 'spares' then please let me know.

We discussed this over a soaking, and later a coffee and didn't have a clue as to if spare sections vary from a more expensive pole to the cheaper end of the market.

So, does anyone have any idea as to the percentage cost of spare sections?

No, too many variables. Bottom line - whatever the manufacturers think the punters will pay.

If anyone out there has a Milo 10-10 with a broken section they feel far too embarrassed to use ever again because they are a true tackle-tart and want to give it to a poor destitute angler please PM me.

Sorry Peter, couldn't resist.

"As Peter Jacobs and I had a cracking afternoon's pole fishing"

Sounds painful reading that Mark.

I doubt there is any formula. It's as Terry says, you ask and they stick their finger in the air and weigh up what you're probably prepared to pay for it. You can bet that if you bought each and every section of that same pole again it would be TWICE the original RRP with NO discount whatsoever. Hardly worth keeping that old 10-10 now Peter, is it?

Jeff,

A top 4 kit is around £145, if you can get them, and the last number 5 section was a fair bit more if the old memory is not playing tricks on me.

I bought the 10-10 when it first came out and the basic pole with 2 top 4's was just over £2,000, so the percentage price of the 'spares' was: circa, 7.5% and 8% respectively.

As I said to Mark in the pub' afterwards, this latest escapade might be the catalyst that will push me into buying the 16m Preston Genus I have been drooling over :-)
