I moved to York about 18 months ago and while there are a number of small tackle shops locally I don't know of any larger shops. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a Yorkshire angling megastore - don't mind travelling up to an hour or so. I'm particularly interested in getting some decent modern clothing.

Jonathan,
Haven't been there myself but Fishing Republic megastore in Barnsley seems pretty good.

ive been, and its a very well stocked shop, theres also one in Manchester, and (I think)Hull.

( I think they have a web site so it might be worth checking that out before making the journey )

Climax at Dronfield is very good.

Fishing Republic is pretty good too.

Chapmans at Scunthorpe is worth a visit.

Bennetts of Sheffield is big but most of their stock is aimed at the beginner or occasional angler.

The old Erics in Leeds was fairly good, but they've moved and I've not been to their new shop.

FTD at Goole has been recommended to me by a couple of good mates but I've not maanaged to visit there yet. My mates have picked up some cracking used gear from there.
Hi Jonathan

Welcome to Gods country - I'll send my tax man round later to collect your rent.

Like Matt says Climax is very good with a large selcetion of gear- ther is a seperate section for carp anglers.

Bennetts is good and their prices are now more competative.

Calcotts across from Bennetts look a bit untidy with load of rods and gear but worth a visit.

Eric's is still good (Eric has retired and is sunning himself abroad somewhere) and its easily accessible from York. Kirgate Anglers in Leeds is also worth a look as is Westgate Anglers in Bradford (run by my mate Matthew before anyone else tells you!)

If you are interested in stuff for specimen Angling, Eric's Angling near the Brown Cow off the Selby Road, Whitkirk, 400yds west of the junction with the Leeds Ring Road, is worth visiting. Car parking in front of shop. Fairly easy to get to from York.

For general coarse fishing, try Bobco, Cherry Row,off Skinner Lane, between the city centre and St James Hospital. Wide range of kit and low prices. Street parking within walking distance, can even park in front on weekends when there's less commuter parking.

Thanks to everyone. I went to Fishing Republic and got stocked up on many things but couldn't get the clothing I was looking for. Have ordered the required "Tribal" gear online from Climax.

Now all I need is some fish...

Outwood Anglers in Wakefield have a good rabge of clothing and are within half an hours drive from York.
Your best bet in York is York Tackle on Hull road they have ESP gear in stock which is quality but they aren't that cheap.
