Hi all

I am in need of a bit of help about what rod to buy as a medium/heavy feeder rod. I have read the "we say" section and narrowed it down to 2 the Shimano hyperloop (£42.99) and the abu garcia transmitter (£36.99).

I want to use the rod for fishing the trent for barbel and chub, but also for low-mid double carp on commercials. I have read reports on both of these and i'm sure i'd be happy with either. However my local takle shop has a second hand (mint condition) korum 13ft v2 carp feeder heavy action rod for £50. Anybody got one of these or used one? I think it might be a bit too beefy for what i am looking for but am willing to be told otherwise as I have the korum 12ft float rod which i love.

Tight lines.

Forget the feeders and go for a stright top. On the gig rivers theres no need for a feeder top.

OK thanks Bryan I hadn't considered that approach. Any suggestions for rods under £80? Would these rods still be ok for the smaller chub, I wouldn't want anything too stiff that would spoil the 'sport'

Hi mate,
I would suggest a barbel rod either 1.5 or 1.75 t/c.
Ive got a shimano nexave barbel classic and power and they are superb.
I use them for both commercial work, tenching, feeder work and obviously river work. I rarely use the quivertips,I prefer the avon top with the baitrunner engaged.
I love these rods and wouldnt be without them.
They are very light and retain sensitivity despite their test curve ratings.
you could get a new john wilson sig avon quiver on ebay for £60 plus p&p you have a rod for both then 11/13 ft float and quiver i have had a 5 lb 8 oz chub on mine and it will take a lot more 1.25 test i love em
