Hello there!! I currently fish an overgrown carp lake with lots of overhanging trees. The carp range from 8lbs to 30lbs plus and my main method is stalking them in the margins with a float rig. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced rod of 10-11ft with enough back bone to stop (or at least slowdown!!!) a rampaging carp but still supple enough for float work?

Fox do some pretty powerful for length carp stalking rods, worth looking at.

Nice one cheers lads - I'll have to look into these. Must say the Greys one looks particularly useful.

Wychwood have a couple of margin rods, although if there's any marginal weed shorter rods can be a bit of a Hastle on the Banks.

Sorry, JimmyFloyd :o)

i bought the 7ft Stalker rod from Greys recently, used it other day down Wylands and floated crust about 4ft out and caught a nice 12lb Common Carp, must say as well that all the time i felt in control of the fish and at no point did i feel the rod was out of its depth. Highly recommended! i bought that from Fosters of Birmingham for £50 including postage and packing!

Would a heavy-ish spinnig rod not do the job ? I hope so cause thats what I'm trying this summer !

Yeah don't see why not.

I had a moment of madness the other day and splashed out on the Greys 9-12ft Stalker and an 11ft Beast Master - managed to get them both knockdown on eBay. Both seem to be very nice pieces of work, now all I've got to do is wait until next weekend when I can try them out...

Hi

I use a wychwood sharpshooter spin rod 9ft in length 20-60gms on which you can use twenty pound braid. I use up to ten pound line and I think this could be just the job for you. I got mine from universal angling in sheffield tel: 0114 264 9664
