Having a bad attack of nostalgia for the days when I used to fish with an old porcupine quill float that I found floating in the margins when I was a kid.

Does anyone know where I can buy a range of porcupine quill floats?

It would be nice to get away from the world of injection moulded plastic and space age materials now and again...

eBay's probably your best bet nowadays.

Thanks John! Looks like it may be the only way nowadays.

Sometimes you do see them in tackle shops. I've been in two tackle shops lately which I've seen quill floats in.

Drake floats do a very nice and sensitive float, I think it has a short piece of peacock with a long fine crow quill insert. An absolut gem for whip and close in fishing.

I was going to suggest this shop, but it looks as though their website is down. Might be worth giving them a ring, though:

I have some quills if you want them, but you'll have to make them up yourself and paint them.

PM your address, there's only a few.

Monk, a mate of mine works at Chester Zoo, he told me they no longer keep porcupines

shame Ian, I once remember taking some quills from between the bars at Belle Vue zoo in Manchester before they closed it down, yes I think Chester zoo only keeps the endangered species these day, the last time I was there they had no bears and only the Asiatic lions, they also had a scouser in there, are they now endangered?

Love the bat house, fantastic place, I spent about an hour in there last time I was at Chester, love me bats.
