Review - FreeLoader Portable Solar Energy
A pocket-sized solar panel that can be pre-charged, and will charge your phone, iPod, PSP, PDA and most portable gadgets - anywhere.

Glad you got one that worked, Graham. I left mine out all day in bright sunlight, and it managed about ten minutes' charge for my phone. My daughter tried her iPod with it, and it didn't charge at all. Neither did it charge my wife's phone, even after I tried charging it via USB.

Up until then, I thought it was really good...

This little device looks like a godsend.
Does anyone else have any feedback to offer?

What a waste of money. Charge it using a computer via USB just about works. Try using to solar panels and it takes ages to charge. Unit gives no indication that it is fully charged up - the outer two LEDs are supposed to glow red when it is fully charged. My unit glowed green no matter how long it stayed in FULL sunshine (bright sun, we are talking sunglasses and shorts here). I left it outside for 3 days (it did not rain) and the damm thing only charged my mobile up by 15% before going empty. Got fed up with the unit and "fixed" it with hammer. What a load of rubbish. Spend your money elsewhere.

Exactly my experience, Neil

Same problems with my freeloader here - and I have two battery units - they both don't last any time at all - even if they are charged directly by USB.

I'm going to write to the company, as this product does not do what it's advertised to do.

I have never managed to charge my freeloader by leaving it in the sun.
I get a maximum of 1 minute "juice" after days in the sun.
Going from the USB will recharge my MP3, or give me about 10-20% recharge on my phone.
My view is, it might get you out of a sticky patch, but don't rely on it to recharge critical gadgets.
On the positive side, it does come with lots of attachments!

I must have been sent a 'special' one then as mine is still working 'as stated'.
