My advice is to start with plain brown breadcrumbs in a large bait bowl. Mix water slowly until the crumb will just hold together then add some combination of trout pellets, corn, casters, chopped worms maggots or whatever, then if need be sprinkle a little more water if the balls aren't holding together well enough.
If you want to use just micro pellets as a groundbait, fill a bait box with pellets, add some water, shake and then tip off the excess water, after a few minutes the pellets will stick together enough so they can be rolled into a ball or fed through an open end feeder!
Do not think that you need to spend a fortune, another good additive is liquid mollasses which you can get from farm shops for about £4 a gallon this can be mixed in with plain brown crumb, although you might need to dilute it with water first as it is really thick.
