I think I have tried this before in the past but no harm in trying again......

I have two of the original DELKIM models purchased(as far as I can recall)back in the early 1980's when they first appeared on the market.Until recently I used both and they have always been very reliable only needing to be kept dry after use about which I have been fanatical.

Unfortunatelythey have stopped working probably due to the wiring finally falling to pieces.

What I would like to do is to get them repaired-not for my use as I now have posh Fox models-but to pass on to a youngster(or an old-boy with whom I fish)when they could last another 20years!!

SO,what I need to know is pretty obvious-Does anyone out there know of any individual or company who could undertake this work??It would seem,to me only new wiring and a bit of very fine soldering is needed.I would be happy to pay  any reasonable charge but I think the problem is finding someone with the necessary knowledge.....................

If this fails then I shall pass them onto my son and in 50years time they might just become museum pieces!!!

ANY advice, good or otherwise would be appreciated-thanks!

Give Delkim a call on 01234 721116. I know Dellareed stopped them from doing the modifications a way back, but I am sure that they would be able to help if not, they would probably know someone who could do it for you.

I would pass the 'posh' Fox alarms onto the person rather than the original Delkim conversions in all honesty. The Delkims when repaired will out last the Fox alarms at least ten fold!!!

Cakey will sort them out for you.

CAKEY?????????????

I have a couple of Optonix head conversions here. Not Delkim ones & not sure they are Bamford conversions either (got the GPO speaker on one side & 2 dial knobs on the reverse with colour coded tops for the LED's), which are more reliable than any alarm I have had since (barring Steve Neville alarms).

Anyone got an idea who's conversions they are? They are based on the Optonic sensor heads (the ones that required use with a sounder box) as the casings have the small square hole cut where the sounder box wire exited the unit.

Have to agree with Wol! I know they arn't one of mine, as I put 110 dBa petzos with a volume control in the ones I did! Man were they loud at full blast!
I converted my original Delareed optonics, thanks to GPO speaker, jack socket and an on/off switch. Now for the life of me i can understand why i put  the on/off switch on them but i'm dead sure i did although i thought they had them. I know the Delks used a reed switch and magnet so laccy band was put around it when not in use.

Apologies for hijacking the thread. One thing I did find strange with the conversions I have was that instead of using proper electrical tape over the connections, brown parcel tape was used instead! Might have to give them a bit of a service myself (basic tidy up inside).

Glad to find out that they are Bamfords (was not sure). They are reliable as hell though. Just got to find some old Solar bits now to bring them back into use again (no after market "ears" or opti-polo & bolts with them).

Wal if you had the first Optonics, the ones with a lead(s) (5 or 7 pin jackplugs, can't remember) to the head(s) and a seperate sounder box, the heads had no battery power in them, the batterys were in the sounder box. So they didn't need an off switch, as you unplugged them from the head to pack them away.

If I look hard enough amongst the many bits I've collected over the years, I could probably come up with the original electronics board from one.

I thought I had exhausted all attempts to find a contact number for Delkim-I even approached Angling Times(?)without success so thanks O Nomadic One-I shall give them a call..........

MY APOLOGIES TO ONE AND ALL.......What I have is two of the original DELAREED OPTONIC ALARMS-one is'LO'tone and one'HI'tone.

I confused myself because of the large'D'(with a speaker logo within the letter itself)on the front of the plastic holder and assumed it was Delkim......age again I'm afraid.....

Anyway,on the positive side,I shall ring Delkim on the number supplied by Nomadic and see what transpires-watch this space!!

Thanks-TeeCee

If they are the Delareed ones (not conversions) then Delkim are very unlikely to touch them as they went through legal action with Delareed that ended up them stopping the work they did on the alarm heads.

If I am to be honest, you can pick up the basic optonic alarms from Ebay for next to nothing nowadays & this would be a cheaper option than having them repaired, unless you know someone who could do the work for nothing or a pint for you.

Delkim wont touch them but CAKEY will, give him a PM.
Phil, you right mate. Yeah, they had leads on them and they went to the sounder box which was a case for the optonics, speaker inside (GPO) battery housing and two points for the extension leads, think they were 5 pin.

I did contact Delkim and suprise, suprise they did give me a telephone number to contact and I am waiting for someone to come back to me..................I take your point Nomadic One and I will not be spending money if it is not a proposition....

Who is this CAKEY chap anyway-is he THE GURU around this subject???

I hope he wants to earn a few beers to sort this for me(or I can make a donation to the ACA or whatever............)
