Here is a link to a knot site, there you will find the loop to loop too.

Hope it helps

Loop to loop as already suggested is good for some set ups.

If I'm setting up a rig for ledger fishing I'll tie a clip of some sort to the mainline with a buffer bead above it to prevent the bomb or lead from running down onto the hooklength.

Korda make something called the 'Stik-clip' which is a good example of what I mean.

Once tied to the mainline you can clip hooklengths on and off with ease.

Just another method, depends on how you're fishing.

Hi Neil

Make a small loop in you main line similar size to the one on your hooklength.

Pass the loop of your main line through the loop in the hooklength.

Pass your hook through the loop in the main line.

Gently pull the two together and at the final stages lubricate with a little spittle.

You are right re. fig 3. if you follow my instructions you will finish up with the knot at fig. 4

Does anybody know a good book for angling beginners ?

Am I right in saying that if you pass the hooklength loop through the mainline loop as figure 3 shows then you get a different type of join which is much weaker?

Show/hide user stats
Yes Mike lot weaker + its harder to change make two loops and fiddle , you will see how its done its hard to explain without being shown,

I will try Mike, make a hooklink tie on hook make loop in other end, hooklink done , tie loop in mainline, now take hooklink and pass the loop over the mainline loop, now pass hook through mainline loop and slowly (watching) how it comes together,if you do it the other way you will see it comes out a lot different.

Thanks Morespiders

I only realised this recently.  I had given up using the loop to loop method because I had found it too be unreliable.

Maybe I should try it again.

I had actually changed to tying a small swivel to the mainline and joing a hooklength to this in the same way as the (wrong) loop to loop.  This seems to be much stronger, even though the hooklength loop is still joined to the swivel the same way.

mainline through hook loop

i think its to avoid strangulating the hook link
