can i use real bread instead of the immitation breadflakes on a pop up rig when carp fishing?

Use crust Neil, big hook...maybe size 4, I use it for chub on a 3" hook length, or you could use it on a zig rig.

I guess the only problem you might have is if you are waiting a long time for bites as obviously the bread will eventually soften and leave the hook, also the smaller fish are going to want a nibble.

What about fake bread on the hook with crumb in a pva bag or a stick!.

Not my idea, seen it in a mag.

Hi Deanos

What's a zig rig?

Show/hide user stats

Just a big version of a pop up Matt. Can be fished anything from 6inches below the surface to 6inches above the bottom. Not sure when it changes from a standard pop up rig to zig rig but the ideas just to put the bait at the level the fish are at. And keep adjusting it untill you find them.

Hey up Matt,

A floating bait fished at any depth from the bed of the lake to just under the surface.

You use a good weight, let the line pass through until the bait hits the surface, then just wind it back under trying it at different depths.

I had loads of carp on pineapple pop-ups fished maybe a foot under the surface last summer, they really attack the bait hard. Makes a change from fishing surface baits like chum mixers.
