No not chest expanders (I don't need them; so my hubby says )

Can anyone tell me what expander pellets are?, and what advantage they have over normal flavoured pellets (if any)? and what is a 'pellet pump'?.

or is it just another ruse to rid us of our spare cash?

Thanks

Hi Maggie

Expander pellet are those that take on water, expand and sink, they soften and therefore can be hooked rather than use a bait band. Dry they flaot

A pellet pump is a way of getting the pellets to take on water and sink quickly (by creating a vaccum i nthe pump the air in the pellets is replaced bby water) - you can just leave expanders in water to soak up.

Expanders can by flavours and coloured by adding the flavour/colour to the water in the pellet pump.

Thank you Lord Paul

Lord Paul,

What advantage do they have over just a box standard sinking pellet?

Cheers, Deanos.

Deanos

I'm no expert but I think it's because you can hook them straight on to the hook - pole anglers tend to use them alot

Also the flavouring of them in water based flavours without them breaking down initially

they sink slower than hard pellets better for up in the water pole feed

There is plenty of soft hooker pellets available now in all flavours and colours.
My pellet pump is now redundant.
Thanks lad - I was getting out of my depth bluffing my way thro' this one

Cheers for the reply Lord Paul and the lads, I find those soft hookers very hard to keep on the darn hook to be honest!

Thanks for your advice all.

Looks like I would be wasting my spondulas as there seems to be plenty of reasonable soft flavoured pellets out there now; and a pellet pump would only endup in the back of the shed with the other useless things that we have bought over the years like the PoleCat etc. So I think I'll save my cash for something more useful

Be careful, some pellets sold as 'expander' are actually soft pre-expanded pellets, so don't discount all with that title.  Furthermore, some expanders pellets can be wetted just by soaking at the bankside for 30mins, no pump required.

Value-wise, I think I'm leaning towards 1kg bags of medium/large soft 'feed' pellets for the hook (the small 'hookbait' tubs are incredibly expensive per kg), with cheap hard pellet for feed.

Dynamite baits have some that you cover with water and flavouring of choice if required, leave for 20/30 mins drain them and away you go,what's more they even sink instantly and available in different sizes.

Bloody hell Mr Monk!

The last time I saw such a creature was at the Pontefract WMC!

It was the 1998 talent show.

"Fat Elvis" (my auntie Norma) had just gone through her "all shook up" routine, Malcolm Brambly had just played "Danny Boy" on his old rip saw accompanied by rex his singing dog...it didnt actually sing on the night, having consumed Malcolm's Vindaloo as he slept off the drink on the sofa the previous evening, poor Rex spent more time licking his steaming bottom through the act than wailing along to the Home Base tool shop maestro.

The wining act was judged to be non other than my friend Mr Gordon Whoppit.

His stripper routine had the fat lasses of South Yorkshire screaming for more I can tell you!

At the end of his act, he dropped his trousers to reveal a BULGING AND WRITHING cod peace....."RIGHT THEN LADIES" he shouted"HERE IS A BLOODY TREAT FOR YOU ALL!"

With that he peeled back the bulging packet to reveil his "hairy pet".

The ladies were a tad disappointed, but us Yorkshire lads love pole cats and ferrets so where more than impressed I can tell you.

Next time on stage he is going to shove a rabbit down with the pole cat...NOW THE LADIES WILL BE ON THE EDGE OF THEIR SEATS i CAN TELL YOU!

Run that one by Graham your Lordship, I'm sure he'll be happy to set it up.
Trouble is Matt - it will be a very exclusive section - just me and poshpaul who know about these thing - oh and you to act as butler
