Hi there im totally new to this sport and ive got a list of questions I would like answering hehe.
I have not bought any tackle yet, so what is the simplest variety of the sport.
It seems to me as tho float fishing is, but not sure as I dont know alot.
Im thinking of buying a 12ft match rod, cork handled carbon.
This one in particular http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280233343532&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=018#ebayphotohosting
Is that the right type of gear im looking at for the job at hand?
Im hoping to go up to hampton springs for my first time ( dont know if anybody has heard of it) on a match lake they have with most fish under 5lb and thats the type of fishing I am most intrested in, rather than specimen?
What would be the best size line to use 4-6? and also what type of hook as for my first time im probably going to go with maggot or castor possibly sweetcorn?
What other stuff does a new fisherman tend to have equipment wise, hooks, shot catapult etc etc?
What type of float is best to use, as from what ive read waggler is a popular choice? Whats the simplest type of knot to tie and has anybody got a little picture guide or somthing I could check out?
And any other types of information you have the time to spare for me
Thanks in advance.
PS
I have been fishing once before but it was when I was about 10 and im 18 now, I plan on going totally alone for my first time probably a bad idea, but i dont have alot of choice.

Thanks very much mate, im just totally clueless really, but i know how to cast haha.
Its the not tying and setting up a rig im most worried about, and unhooking a fish without hurting it.
My whole fishing career consists of catching about 5 skimmers at a lake called meols, and getting snagged on the mother of all pikes on my first attempt and loosing my rig.
Was one of the most exciting things ive done tho, and now im old enough to go myself without having to take my dad along and being able to drive, I feel like i can take my own path in the fishing world and really go for it.

welcome to fm stesimo, mark has some very good advice for anglers new to the sport on fm,and you will get advice from other members on asking. i like mark think you are right in learning the basics first ...i will only add one little tip master fishing close in even if it takes a long time then venture out.

From what I remember fishing close in can be a pain in the arse when surrounded by reeds.
Does anybody fancy coming along on a trip to hampton springs or somthing, maybe get a few of us to go?
obviously for us northerners

why not find a local fishing club and join it most clubs have a coach or someone willing to help beginers
|
 |
Fishing seems to have died down completely, the only clubs around mine are wirral sea fishing and wirral game fishing. Dont fancy fly and lure fishing at all. There used to be a club for young people but that was back when I fished years ago and thats gone now. Most young people seem to just want to go out and get drunk these days not much intrest in fishing well in my area atleast. Shame really would have liked to have joined one as well, looks like im going to have to go it alone on this 1

go on google and put angling clubs and where you live see what it comes up with. like this one http://www.psac.co.uk/

Welcome stesimo. I would take notice of the help you've been offered, if I were you!

Yeah I am doing, port sunlight ac is really hard to join tho so I am told, need to actually be friends with members to get in now or somthing.
I think im going to go it alone for now and see how it goes maybe get speaking to a few people on the bank.

I'd try o find a well srocked commercial fishery and if you get stuck ask an old guy - they love to show howmuch they know about angling

GOOD ADVICE Lord paul, watch the people near to you (if they are fishing the float) and see what they are doing and copy it, then when, they aren't busy approach him/her and ask him/her politely
Most good fisherpeople (being politically correct for once) will give good advice
Ryan
pay attention to the above though.

Hi! stesimo, I am in the same position. Keep asking the questions? You will get all the answers you need, eventually. I have found that experienced anglers are only to pleased to help beginners. Buck. T.
