Re: line weight, explain please?
Lures are usually big, size 8 or 10 and in gaudy colours such as lime green, orange, white, black and lime.(Cat's whisker, whiskey fly, blobs, viva, tadpole fly)
A Diawl Bach (Little Devil) is a skimpy little fly fished subsurface usually on stillwaters.
Before you start casting, I suggest you have some practice sessions on grass.
When actually fishing, you need to protect your eyes and head. I wear sunglasses and a hat. The path of the fly through the air can be difficult to control when beginning fly fishing, a faulty back cast could result in the fly hitting the angler at high speed.
Initially I would use leaders no longer than the length of the rod, and would avoid those large flies which are weighted with lead or big gold beads.
