Default Barbel gangs

Just as gangs in Britain seem to have "Post Code" wars do barbel anglers have "river wars"?
I can just image barbel anglers from the Trent going down south and invading another gang's territory catching their barbel and spay painting their gang signs on the bank

Not far off.

But they stay within their own "post code" and defend their territory, sometimes with threats.

More a case of "this is a local river, for local people".

Happens already Paul.

We've had pitched battles here on the Royalty. Feeders versus back leads. Centre pins at dawn type stuff.

Someone once told me: You can tell a barbel angler from Oop Norf by the angle of his rod.

We Wessex boys like our rods low and unobtusive . The northern interloopers like them erect and proud .

As for gang signs we regularly see Teme Seven logo scrawled on school bridge at Throop. It gets the locals angry as this is a CC Moores manor.

I don't see it as a problem unless they start rapping (I couldn't handle that on the river bank).

Yep, I recall on a certain single species forum, Pete Marshall branded me a "cockney" and told me to stick too my "local rivers" leaving his alone.

Rather ironic considering I only actually live 5 or 6 miles further from his favourite river than he does, I was amused further because where I live in Oxfordshire is nearer to brum than London.

I have also been asked how many "good" barbel rivers I pass over on my out west to Worcestershire, in short I pass close to the Evenlode, which is sh*t and the Warks Avon but that's not in 'my' manor...

I couldn't give a damn if folk want to travel to fish my local river. I'd consider them slightly daft if they came from south of the Humber to do so though. I can understand the Jocks and Geordies travelling south. I occasionally travel south myself. I don't know if that upsets the locals or not, I've rarely seen one.

I can't think of anything worse than a "turf war" over fishing. I dare say it has happened but never to me. The prospect of belonging to a "gang" fills me with dread. My own company is usually quite adequate but occasionally I'll fish a certain select one or two.
