Been taking my nephew fishing for most of the season and he has been lapping it up especially since he has hooked and landed he first Barbel of 5lb.

I have promised a rod for xmas. But I am wanting a rod that with a standard tip so not confusing him:confused: with a second tip with push in quiver tips, any ideas who makes and supply's such a rod as standard?

Thanks in advance lads :)

Sorry Dalesman,
Misread the requirement in the post as "wanting a rod that with a standard tip ..... with a second tip with push in quiver tips" - now I'm confused!
I must admit to thinking that the Avon was a 1.5TC - but can't find validation of this - however his 'Barbel Quiver' is quoted as 1.75TC.
You can always leave unwanted bits at home - then curse that you did this when you find you need an extra 2' to get over a reed bed! ;):eek:mg:

I take it that any rod with more than one tip section is not wanted?; even a multi-tip with both tip sections being Avon type? (with no quivertip section)?

Otherwise what about the 12ft Grey's Multi-tip Specialist rod which comes with either 1.5lb & 2lb tc normal tip sections, or 1.25lb & 1.75lb tip sections; I have two of these 1.5lb/2lb rods and have used them for Carp (surface/close/medium range), Barbel (normal & floodwater) and Tench (using the 1.5lb tip), and I love using them whenever I'm not wanting to use the 1.7lb tip or quivertip on my Barbel rods.

I think they also do a slightly less expensive rod which comes with a single tip section too.

If you just want a single rod with no Avon or extra quiver tip options then have a look at the Fox Royale range of barbel rods.

There are so many on the market, best go to a good tackle shop and have a look at what you want.

To be honest, you would be better off getting a rod with two top sections, one Avon tip, one Quiver tip.

Say if i am wrong, but it sounds like the lad is newish to fishing, but enjoying it.

So by buying a twin tip rod, he will be able to further his skills as he gets more confident, and learning more by fishing a different style.

Just an Idea.

To be fair Greenie I read it exactly the same way and I would have suggested something similar.

I'm wondering if Dalesman means...

I am wanting a rod with a standard tip, so as not to confuse him with a second tip (or carrier section) with push in quiver tips?

Agree with Ray's post above about the twin tip ^^^

After all, you don't have to give it him with the second tip and it might be a nice surprise a couple of months later if he wants to spread his wings a bit.

Either way good luck in your search, I'm sure he'll be delighted with it whatever you go for.

There are plenty to choose with a 1.75 standard tip, not so many 1.5 it's true, I am currently sizing down my collection, I have a couple of mint/ unused rods that might suit.
