Default BARBEL SOCIETY : National Spawning Survey 2010

Welcome to the Barbel Society Website. The national organisation for all barbel anglers.

We had a limited response to the appeal for information last year, but the Barbel Society takes the view that a long term record of spawning behaviour will not only help to protect historic spawning sites, but also build on our very patchy knowledge of how spawning success can vary from year to year.
We would ask all clubs, riparian owners and anglers to help to pool their observations so that we can pass on this information to the Environment Agency, and inform further research.

Nice one Fred, I know of a couple, but will check this year to see if they are still in use.

interesting, I'm planning a good walk or two along the river banks to try to spy some spawning carp, never witnessed barbel spawning before. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

on a side note, the Soar record is only 13lb 2oz...? mmmmm theres a challenge.

It's not available Bob.

It's an ongoing project, and was never intended to just take a bite at the subject on a single spawning year basis.
It's also pertinment to say, as mentioned above, there was only a limited response last year.
As stated at the commencement of the survey, the information received will remain confidential to the BS and EA, especially specific locations. The general conclusions will eventually be shared as much as possible.

Basicly the survey will rely on individuals, such as yourself, to provide the information. It goes without saying that without the information, the project will fail.
