A session margin fishing
I wanted to try a short session of nothing but margin fishing.
I got at the one acre lake lake at 2pm and left at 8.45pm. You have to be off the lake by dusk here.
Be quiet
It is probably the most important factor in near margin fishing. If you are not quite you are likely to spook any fish you had a chance of catching. I set my rod, and kit up away from the water very carefully.
Camouflage
I'm not on about looking like Rambo in the woods here, I just keep me and my gear about 8ft away from the rod.
When I'm fishing this close in I dont use anything powerful. A 2 & 1/4tc rod with a 5000 reel does the job for me.

I place my bait carefully about 2ft off the swim (It's not deep here about 18-24") making sure the line is slack.
The bait and rig is simple. 2 small tutti pellets on a size 10 hook. Once in place 3-4 freebies around it.

I quietly move back to my chair and sit and wait. Less than 10 minutes later, buzzzzzzzzz, a beautiful 21lb (21lb on the dot) common is in the net.
On unhooking it I notice how lucky I was to land it.
A size 10 nash TT hook (not cheap at £5 a packet) had nearly straightend.

Lucky for me the bailiff is 2 swims away. I ask him to take a picture of my prize.

I set it all up again. This time using a Korda size 10 hook.
It's about 4.30pm when the alarm (quietly) goes off.
This time I have a angry 19lb 1oz mirror on the end. No one around to ask to take a picture so its done on the self timer

The same set up again and about 7.30 another mirror arrives at 14lb 11oz.
Its now 8.30 and time to get off the lake. I'm very happy catching 3 in 7 hours so close in.

Countless times I have seen anglers casting to the horizon or plonking one in the middle when all along the fish are right under their rod tips.
This is between me and you though
