The latch time is the amount of time the latching light stays on after you alarm stops bleeping. Most useful when you get single bleeps, then look up to see which rod it was. the amount of time you should set it at is really down to how interested you are in seeing which rod bleeps (maybe finicky feeding carp?) and how quick you are to react...
Obviously you want it on long enough to stick your head out of the bag at night, but not so long that you run your batteries down on every bleep.
