I really enjoy margin fishing for carp but not 'just' as that will not always be the right place to be.

Pretty much all that I've been doing since March, generally with float gear too. I usually don't have the time, finances or patience for the long chuck, bait and wait thing. Results have been good but it looks like rampant weed growth has finally beaten me. I'm still fishing the margins but I've had to step up to "proper" carp gear.

One of my favorite tactics is to feed the margins whilst fishing further out and then float fish the margins when I see the.carp feeding

definitely my favourite place to look for carp, float fished preferably.

I like it when you can find a swim with two distinct differetn margin areas - preferably at the same depth - so you can feed them both and then fish them alternately. Sometimes the disruption of a fish being caught will see the swim empty for 10 or 15 minutes, better to have another swim lined up while that one settles....

The margins of any water is by far the biggest feature! However as with any outher feature, you must find the "spots" on the said feature!

This is where margin work and the said spots are easier to spot, bait and keep an eye on! Obviously you need to know what to look for first..................

Hi guys newbie questions.

By margins, hw close to the bank would you mean. 1 metre out, 2 metres, 3 metres?

When you float fish what depth are your baits at? Few inches from bottom, few below the surface, mid depths, or wherever you find fish from trial and error?

I have fished margins and way out. All kinds of depths but no results yet.

Thanks

There is no set definition, it rather depends on the water concerned.

I suspect that it may be in your (and others) interests to clarify what you mean when you say "fishing for carp". So far I suspect that some are talking about "proper" carping and others are talking about lighter styles of fishing for smaller carp.

I'd give a different answer to your question depending on which you were talking about.
