Default The next big secret..........

I have great respect for Kevin Nash products. And when in his latest DVD he talks about a bait additive that is so devastatingly effective, one just has to investigate the claims

And that is rock salt!

Carp apparently are drawn to rock salt due the certain essential minerals that are contained in it. What this means is that small amounts of rock salt are added to boilie mix, spod mix and groundbait.

But is this a recent UK discovery as is being made out?

No!

It appears likely that The South Africans have been onto rock salt for several years!

The FIPSed world championships in Rumania are to be held shortly. It will be interesting to see who wins and what tactics they use.

Now I must look at rock salt for tench, bream and barbel.

Most of your catch reports need to be taken with a pinch of salt...........

I'll be the 1st to admit i'm no carp angler but the "Thinking Tackle" series on TV have been showing the anglers adding salt to their mixes for ages - recent discovery? - I've known about a it for at least 2 years

People in this country have been adding salt or salty items to bait mixes for donkey's years. If adding salt was meant to have been a secret, it was the worst kept one ever. Adding salt to wet bait has also been going on for ages for another reason, to allow it to be used with PVA without it melting.

We had Scott write up about adding salt to PVA bags too.

Unfortunately, I can't read it since I'm NOT AUTHORISED.

Can someone please do something about this?

For Carp salt is essential, as is black pepper and a thyme stuffing.

Jeff as you know we mods have no powers to delve into the murky world of the techy...but we'll draw it to their attention once more. Assume you've also given them a nudge.

Yes indeed, a very poorly kept secret, I was first made aware of salts benefits some 25yrs ago, the man who told me swore by adding used curing salt........
I applaud Kevin Nash's marketing team, as, if you make fools think it's a secret, they'll buy into the fact that they've been missing out on something. And at £5000/t for a product that if bought in bulk, costs a couple hundred quid per ton - money, money, money!

Ron, why do you keep trying to big up SA angling with your ridiculous innuendo; the Ethiopians were first to use rock salt for catching cyprinid species some 44,984 years back - 16yrs after turning his back on Africa, our very early ancestor had reached the mighty river Danube, starving hungry he was, so scant was the food he didn't even have any bait for his (bone) hook. Out of pure desperation he took his last piece of Ethiopian rock salt, hashed it on his hook by way of a strip of willow bark pith (an early bait band I'm thinking), tossed his somewhat crude rig in and WHAM BAM, he had a snotty....

....And the rest, as they say, is history.

Did the first angler to use rock salt not think to hair rig it? That must have been a SA!
