Try using a sharper hook maybe make sure your bait sits at the same level in the water as you freebies use a longer distance between float and hook, use a nylon hook link or fluorocarbon reduce the diameter of the h/link

Tip to make it float rub your finger behind your ear and then on your line

I would use maybe three or fourfeet ,at least Crayfish.
What hook are you using?I think the basic Drennan specialists are ok for the job.
Avon with the use of florocarbon as hooklength does this stuff not sink?I know it is good at being low vis but have never thought it suitablebecause ofits sinking properties.

Not sure about the stuff in general but i found some floating stuff in the fly fishing section of the tackle shop. I've used it for the last season and it was great
