Just watched this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8qOMdTHh3Y in the Carl&Alex series, about their campaign to catch large Carp in the local park lake - excellently made - nice to see 2 youngsters bringing their thoughtfulness & enthusiasm to fishing.

Should help to restore a little faith in young carp anglers after the poor publicity some of them get!
These two should get a job with the TV companies showing them how to make interesting TV angling programmes - well worth a watch - even if you're not a Carper!

What time of year was this made? looks like milt coming from the fish around 23/24 minutes.

Other than that its nice to see some youngsters putting the work in and earning their results, not a spliff or beer can in sight

I think they have Nash behind them...they have a lot of Nash Kit (Dwarf and Hooligun) possibly Nash's production team too... it has the same sort of flavour... not detracting from their work though... they seem a well balanced and talented pair o' lads... good luck to 'em:thumbs:

They feature on one of the Nash DVDs already.
And also have ****** a lot of people off by publicising various waters.

Watch the video, at around 23/24 minutes the angler is holding the fish with what looks like milt coming out of it, meaning the fish was caught at close to spawning time. its meant to fertilize eggs, not drip onto a unhooking mat.

A minute or two earlier - the subtitle shows the session was filmed on 26Apr - most of the sessions were shot during the old Close Season - and it isn't necessarily obvious before the fish is caught - that it is in milting form. It would however be a good argument for returning to a blanket Close Season!:eek:

Ahhh. I didn't know what milt was. Now I know :)

I don't have fast enough signal to watch it here but have seen it before. Is it the 40 that's dripping milt?

If you watch some of their other videos, there is plenty of other evidence of lack of care for fish.
No unhooking mats, dragging carp through pads, fishing from swims where you have no chance of landing fish etc.

My biggest bug bare is that since Tanyards has been on most of their videos, the place is ruined.

It was the 25lb fish, I stopped watching once I saw what was happening, seems a photograph was more important than what was happening to the fish, very poor.

Maybe - like you regarding milt - they were ignorant of these aspects. Crow has helped educate you - perhaps others will help educate these two lads!

Since Tanyards is a commercial venture - I'm sure the owners will take a view as to whether there is any ruin to their business and take the appropriate action - like banning publicity or seeking a cut of any profits. They don't seem to eschew publicity normally - having a presence on most fora and specialist sites.
Who have they ruined it for and in what way?

I like their videos and one small indiscretion on their part would not be enough to put me off watching them.

They are 2 young lads for crying out loud. 2 lads who are a great advert for the modern day. I'm sure they will learn that gravid fish need to be treated delicately, both seem like bright lads and their future is bright and very lucky to be getting into the industry by the looks of things.Good luck to them and hopefully they have enough about them to ignore the bitter knockers.

Not every capture needs an unhooking mat, having an unhooking mat seems to be a replacement for common sense among some fisherman now.

Terry Dempsey does a slide show with fish on nets on hard banks, he acknowledges the bad practise with a giggle and not one of the audience walked out! Hurrah!

When I started angling fish care was one of the first things I was taught, perhaps these lads were not.

Your last paragraph doesn't deserve any comment.

.
But by commenting on the fact that it deserved no comment , you did in fact comment
The way to not comment on something is to , in fact , say nothing at all

Comedy music: wha wha wha wha whaaa

Just a reminder:

you stick hooks in fish, drag them in, haul them out of the water (where they cant breath). So I wouldnt get precious about un-hooking mats if I were you.

Perspective is everything. These lads aren't you, nor have they had the same angling education as you. People make mistakes even when it comes to the hobbies we love.

That's fairly obvious ;)

Ithink you will find that I haven't said anything about unhooking mats other than to say milt shouldn't be dripping onto them.

It's more like a playground now.
1 kid fishing, 5 sitting watching or chasing each other round the lakes.
Shouting across the lakes to each other.
Getting woken up at 6am asking if you've caught anything.
Casting over your swim from the opposite side of the lake.

I used to really like it there, but as soon as their videos went viral, it's gone from a nice tranquil place to a over-run commie.

That's a stupid statement.
If that's your thought on fish care, you shouldn't be fishing.

Thats a bit harsh, i use common sense when it comes to fish care and we do stick hooks into fish.

I'm in total agreement with you, but what with me being an Angler not a Fisherman, I'm elevated above the hoi polloi....

I'm surprised no one picked up on the ultimate forum sins; fishing one rod tight to snags whilst fishing another rod 40-50 yards away, then to top it all off when he gets a bite on the unattended rod he runs to get it and forgets his bloody net....

...Never fear he's got his chest waders....
