Why are carp called "pastie carp"? I assume it is a derogatory term and has something to do with their eating habits!;)

It's because they resemble a pastie when lying on their side.

Pasties often have a pastry joining on top that makes them resemble something else with fancy flaps :).

When viewed from above the scales under the dorsal fin (on mirrors) might look like the top of a cornish pasty.
